Mission

YPI creates a community of respect and responsibility for young people. For those whose talents in the visual and performing arts set them apart in their school systems, YPI provides a home base by meeting every year. Creative expression is the ultimate goal. YPI provides access to professional artists who may help guide their careers as young people mature. These master teachers share both their talent, experience, and wisdom. Since 1981 campers from all over the US and abroad have worked together to step outside their comfort zones and create a community of arts and friendship.

YPI Inc

At its core, YPI is an annual retreat, a home base, a welcoming environment for the curious mind.

YPI is a place for inquisitive young people like you. It’s a place for those whose interests in the written, visual, and performance arts set them apart in their school system. It’s a cooperative learning environment for young people where creative expression is the ultimate goal.

The two-week-long YPI summer camp was founded in 1981 and is housed at the Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut. YPI exists to create a safe and inspirational environment where young people, ages 10-18 of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, can feel free to create, explore, grow, and share their talents under the thoughtful guidance of professional artists and caring staff.

YPI is not your average arts camp. We welcome tweens and teens in grades 5 through grade 12 to our beautiful summer home at Suffield Academy in Suffield, CT for two weeks every summer. You don't have to have any special ability or talent—we foster your interest in the creative arts at any level.

We hold a variety of workshops in the performance, visual, and writing spaces. You can choose to take one workshop each week or remain in the same workshop for both weeks for a more in-depth experience.

Our YPI campers live in residence halls on the beautiful Suffield Academy campus and are supervised by highly-qualified counselors. When you're not in the classroom, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy community activities such as capture the flag, theater games, jewelry making, face painting, soccer, asteroids, ultimate frisbee and mini-workshops on dance, music, acting, and writing if you so choose. You’ll love our Wednesday night dances even if you've never loved a school dance. Trust us.
