What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Every six months, Bread of Compassion organizes and trains humanitarian Compassion Teams. Compassion Teams are composed of individuals ranging from local medical professionals to high school students that have one thing in common: A heart to help others.
Team members raise their own personal support to take part in a life changing volunteer opportunity, allowing BOC to channel its funds directly to the project at hand. Compassion Teams vary in size from twelve to seventy, depending on the assignment.
?Teen Teams? have traveled domestically to Florida and New Orleans to provide disaster relief, donating thousands of pounds of food and labor hours to help those affected by disaster rebuild.
Teams have traveled internationally to Brazil, Mexico, Kenya, Guatemala and Peru providing food, dental care, construction materials and labor to help the world?s most impoverished people.
In Mexico, for example, BOC provided over 1400 Tarahumara people with 20 tons of food. In Niarobi, Kenya teams built an orphanage in the Mtuba slums and provided medical and dental care to thousands. In Limatambo, Peru over 500 doses of antibiotics were given to over one hundred villagers receiving dental care. In Guatemala, students received dental care and basic hygiene lessons as other team members constructed a new facility for the severely overcrowded school.
Teams are presently training to go to India in November 2007 to construct a medical/dental clinic, and to bring aid to an orphanage in the central city of Hyderabad, where teams will be working with children suffering from HIV/AIDS.
