Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Services for People with Addictions
No two paths to addiction are identical. Neither are our solutions. Samaritan Daytop Village develops individualized treatment plans for our clients receiving treatment for drug and alcohol use disorders in both outpatient and residential settings. Our new community residence combines characteristics from both programs with clients living in safe and supportive housing, while receiving treatment and support services in the community. We work to continuously improve our services and programs to meet the unique needs of each individual who seeks our assistance.
We take a “whole-person approach” in all of our programs and use scientifically proven methods to address addiction and related use disorders. The lives of the people we serve are complicated not only by addiction but physical and mental health disorders as well. We provide comprehensive services to address these issues, and the incorporation of evidence-based practices positively impacts the total recovery process.
Unhoused New Yorkers
Samaritan Daytop Village (SDV) offers help to unhoused New Yorkers through partnerships with the New York City Department of Homeless Services and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
SDV operates over 20 temporary housing & shelters for families, men and women without housing. These programs provide individuals and families a temporary place to stay while they work to acquire permanent housing. We help more than 800 New Yorkers find permanent, affordable places to live each year.
Our Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides an affordable apartment unit, rental assistance and support services to New Yorkers needing a place to live. SDV currently operates 180 supportive housing units in buildings throughout New York City, requiring recipients to pay about 30% of their monthly adjusted income toward rent as they receive case management and links to social services.
Veteran's Program
Samaritan Daytop Village is nationally recognized for its comprehensive services for today's returning service members. A pioneer in veteran-specific treatment for over 30 years, we administer three residential treatment facilities exclusively for veterans struggling with chemical dependency, post-traumatic stress disorder and other life challenges.
Our treatment services for veterans are grounded in principles of trauma-informed care that reflect our understanding of the prevalence of trauma and its profound impact on all spheres of human functioning. Our treatment philosophy emphasizes safety, respect, empowerment, personal integrity, and the healing power of relationships within a community of veterans in recovery.
Services provided include group and individual counseling, relapse prevention counseling, trauma-specific therapies, primary and mental health care, employment services, family intervention, veteran benefits counseling, housing assistance and aftercare services.
Family Programs
SDV Family Programs help families transition from shelter to permanent housing, teach family members about the dangers of drugs and drug use, and provide reunification services for families affected by a loved one’s substance use.
The Family Housing Program manages temporary residences for homeless families while working with them to acquire permanent housing. The Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides rental assistance and supportive services to families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
The Young Mothers Program is an intensive residential substance use treatment program where women can live with their young children while working on their recovery and enhancing their parenting skills in a supportive, structured environment.
The Westchester Assessment & Referral Program addresses the toxic link between child abuse/neglect and parental alcohol and drug addiction. We collaborate with DSS caseworkers to visit at-risk families and provide assistance/referrals.
