Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The mission of LIHP is to provide housing for those who, through the unaided operation of the marketplace, cannot afford a safe and decent home. LIHP accomplishes its mission through development, technical assistance, education, community lending and advocacy.

In 1987, Long Island's development, professional, labor, financial, real estate, education and religious leaders came together to form LIHP. They did so because housing on Long Island was becoming too expensive for young, working families to afford to live here. LIHP was founded "so that all Long Islanders can achieve that old American promise and ever-present dream: to be decently and affordable housed and able to live in safe, sound and vital communities." Over the next thirty-five years, LIHP's scope and impact has expanded exponentially through the development of affordable housing, first-time homebuyer mortgage counseling, employer assisted housing, fair housing education, down payment assistance, rental assistance, default and foreclosure prevention counseling and various other programs. During its history, LIHP has assisted more than 50,000 individuals and families within its various programs. LIHP is a true partnership of government, charitable and community organizations.
