What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

SNN was founded to promote youth development. Its, innovative programs have helped thousands of youth from low-income communities develop academic and personal skills to succeed as adults. A 1990’s pioneer in using media technology for education, SNN’s first project enabled students from underperforming schools to produce and distribute e-newsletters and broadcasts about their lives. SNN’s newest project, Tour for Tolerance, evolves the themes from our previous initiatives to address a critical deficit: the non-existence of tolerance education in schools throughout the country. The Tour for Tolerance converts buses into high-tech classrooms that travel to schools to teach tolerance. Each bus serving 50,000+ students, combating all discriminatory “isms” by inspiring empathy, humanity, and understanding at a moment when those qualities are vitally needed for the civility and sustainability of society.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

"Tour For Tolerance" USA

At Tour Four Tolerance, we are working with Holocaust survivors and their Liberators, a few more years, and they will all be gone. To increase primary, middle, and high school students' awareness and practices of empathy, compassion, tolerance, inclusion, respect for human dignity, and peace. To increase students understanding of why the Holocaust and other inhumane events are critically important, both as tragedies of history, but an alarm to the present. Demonstrate the profound impact of individual behavior, not just locally but globally.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

VISION
Our vision is a peaceful, humane world that respects human dignity among all people.

MISSION
Our mission is to promote tolerance, our common humanity, and the importance of individual and civic responsibility among the youth of all backgrounds.

GOALS
• Increase middle and high school student awareness and practice of empathy,
compassion, tolerance, inclusion, respect for human dignity and peace.
• Increase students’ understanding of why the Holocaust and other inhumane
events are critically important, both as tragedies of history and an alarm for the present.
• Demonstrate the profound impact of individual behavior, not just locally, but
globally.

TACTICS
• Recruit a stellar team of tolerance education, youth development, non-profit experts
• Develop a high-tech bus that brings inspiring, grade-appropriate, interactive
tolerance exhibit to 50,000+ students annually
• Launch prototype in New York City during 2019 school year
• Continually assess the exhibit’s impact toward making improvements that maximize
outcomes
• Offer the bus as a community resource, available for mission-focused work in
Schools and various after school and public settings.
• Use prototype to build additional buses for travel nationwide

WHY NOW
Throughout history wars have raged for the simple fact that one person doesn’t look the same as another, worship the same, vote for the same leader, or call the same country home. Each time one of these atrocities comes to an end, our collective conscience says, “never again” but history repeats itself, often more brutally than before.
Tolerance and diversity are under fierce social and political attack. Coming to grips with what divides us is crucially needed today. Through the Tour for Tolerance, we can encourage youth to avoid the mistakes of the past and the mistakes that have yet to occur. Instead, they can choose to extend a hand to all of humanity, regardless of gender, race, faith, country of origin, economic status or any of the distinctions used to diminish groups of people

Our team brings passion and experience to their roles. Collectively, their expertise in developing and implementing school-based programs have educated and empowered more than 500,000 students in more than 2,500 schools nationwide. The designers have created many acclaimed exhibitions that address the depths of inhumanity, through work that is powerful yet approachable.

We have big ambitions: Just 12 months after launching our prototype bus, we project having served 50,000 kids. In five years, we plan to provide tolerance education to 500,000+ kids annually nationwide.

We are currently fundraising to launch Tour for Tolerance, an interactive tolerance exhibit, in New York City in 2019.

The purchase and retrofit of the Tour for Tolerance bus prototype
The design team to create the exhibit in collaboration with educators, historians, and technology experts.
The hiring of talented staff committed to teaching and promoting tolerance
The launch of the prototype Tour bus serving 50,000+ youth annually
The assessment of our program so impact is measured, enhanced and used in the development of the Tour fleet that will travel to schools around the country.

Having a bus is one of the critical components. The cost of the bus is 250K thousand dollars in which we have raised $60K thousand.
The New York Department of Educators is in full support of our educational initiative.
We have several Holocaust survivors working with us
Several school principals, teachers and different levels of educators working with us.
