MUSICIANS FOUNDATION INC

Helping musicians and their families in times of need since 1914.

aka Musicians Foundation   |   New York, NY   |  www.musiciansfoundation.org

Mission

Musicians Foundation was established in 1914 to support performers, composers, and educators in times of need, crisis, and transition. Eligible musicians throughout the country receive grants up to $3,000 to help pay essentials, like rent and mortgage bills, medical and dental treatments, and natural disaster recovery costs. In a time when artists are experiencing more instability than ever before, Musicians Foundation continues to serve as a vital safety net for those who have given their lives to music. As the oldest nonprofit of its kind in the United States, the Foundation is dedicated to providing life-changing financial relief so musicians in all genres can continue their artistic pursuits.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Musicians Foundation Financial Aid

This program provides grants for medical and allied living expenses in emergencies for professional musicians, regardless of their genre or instrument, who have worked in the United States as a professional musician for at least five (5) years, and currently reside in the United States. In addition, we can provide grants for the families of professional musicians that meet this criteria. This does not cover grants for scholarships, loans, or private unemployment benefits.

Applicants must submit tax statements demonstrating that their principal income is derived from work as musicians.

Support includes one-time assistance for periods of acute need (medical crisis, crime victimization, catastrophic events, etc.) and funding is given in the form of direct payment to vendors, such as medical practices, housing authorities, instrument retailers, and health insurance companies to maximize efficiency.

An expert screening committee reviews all proposed grantees to confirm the validity of each individual application, including review by a physician in case of medical need, as well as evaluation by a licensed social worker.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Musicians Foundation's goal is to alleviate the financial burdens musicians encounter during particular times of need, crisis, and transition by providing grants that help pay essential bills.

Musicians Foundation provides grantees that meet our criteria with a payment of up to $3000. All payments are made directly to vendors, such as medical practices, housing authorities, instrument retailers, and health insurance companies.

Musicians Foundation sets a yearly budget for allocating grants based on our available resources. Applications for grants can be submitted online or by mail, and instructions can be found on our website. Additionally, we conduct active outreach to various organizations and non-profits to ensure that musicians are aware of our grants, and actively fundraise to increase the amount of grants we can award.

To date, Musicians Foundation has given millions in financial assistance to musicians in times of need. With our newly created online application, we are receiving more applications from musicians than ever before, and are looking to develop our fundraising base to help meet their needs. Musicians Foundation is the most accessible organization of its kind, allowing professional musicians from any corner of the country to fully apply from most devices with an internet connection.
