The Mission of the National Recycling Coalition is to partner with and facilitate activities between and among non-profit organizations (NGO’s), businesses, trade associations, individuals and government to maintain a prosperous and productive American recycling system that is committed to the conservation of natural resources.

The Campus Council was established to meet the need for stronger linkages between higher ed and the Sustainable Materials Management industry. Degree programs, career services, applied research/technology transfer, and relationships with recycling leaders are examples of the opportunities the Campus Council develops between on-campus and off-campus groups.

The National Standards Certification Board (NSCB) will be accrediting certification programs for Certified Sustainable Resource Management Professionals run by states, regions, organizations, trade associations, universities, and community colleges (hereinafter referred to as recycling organizations or ROs). ROs may apply and seek this national accreditation of their local certification program. NSCB will charge a fee for this accreditation.

National certification is for “Sustainable Resource Management” programs that help students learn how to Reduce, Recycle, and Recycle to Zero Waste. NSCB has developed a set of standards and key components that certification programs must meet to achieve this national accreditation of their program.

GOAL 1 Executive Director and Staff NRC hire an Executive Director and additional staff to provide day-to-day leadership, improve administration and obtain additional resources to support NRC services.
GOAL 2 Partnerships NRC pursues strong, constructive relationships with the ROC, State Recycling Organizations (SROs), and other recycling organizations.
GOAL 3 National Conferences NRC organizes the National Recycling Congress, and other unique national conferences and provides leadership at other national conferences.
GOAL 4 Advocacy NRC provides a proactive National Voice of Recycling for its members.
GOAL 5 Educational Outreach NRC actively highlights best practices and educational materials members need.
GOAL 6 Organizational Capacity NRC develops robust and sustainable organizational capacity to serve members and expand services.

The Strategic Goals, tasks and objectives are assigned to the NRC Committees; staffed by NRC Board of Directors. The Committees meet monthly through workplans, and report their activities at the monthly Board of Directors meeting. The Committees display their accomplishments through webinars and at the annual NRC conference to educate and engage our membership.

Progress is described through membership growth and the engagement of the membership.
Membership has grown 13% from 2021 to 2022. Webinar engagement is averaging 250 per webinar, up significantly from previous years. The annual conference in December 2023 will measure financial growth for the year through sponsorships and attendance fees.
