What we aim to solve
Frontline women's organizations around the world play the most critical role to advance gender equality and safeguard the rights of women and girls. Inspite of their life-saving work these women's organizations are severely under-resourced. Although there has been a boost in international funding for women's rights in recent years, a 2016-2017 OECD survey found that only 1% of "gender equality" funding actually reached women's organizations. We need to level the playing field. Frontline women's groups must have access to resources, visibility and political power in order to continue to do their work efficiently. Frontline Women's Fund ensures that resources reach strong frontline groups where they are most needed and have the maximum impact.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Frontline Women's Fund
Frontline Women's Fund (formerly Donor Direct Action) was founded in 2011 by Jessica Neuwirth with co-convenors Gloria Steinem and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay. In 2015 it was integrated into the Sisterhood Is Global Institute, a feminist think-tank founded by Robin Morgan and Simone de Beauvoir in 1984. Since its inception, Frontline Women's Fund has regranted over US $9 million to frontline women’s rights organizations around the world. Today we support 28 grantees through 4 thematic funds: - Efua Dorkenoo Fund to End Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) - Gloria Steinem Equality Fund to End Sex Trafficking - The Fund to End Gender-Based Violence - The Fund for Women, Peace, and Security

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
With a vision to strengthen leading frontline women's organizations around the world, FWF links strong frontline women's rights partners around the world to funding, visibility & political power.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We capitalize on the power of collective fundraising, using the media and internet outreach to raise awareness and mobilize movements. We apply for grants and, when applicable, nominate our thematic funds or specific frontline organizations for grants as well. We plan events, panels, and create videos about these organizations, telling their stories to publish on our social media platforms and send them out in targeted e-blasts. We also help the these organizations in making the political connections they need to get their message heard by the people in a position to create lasting changes.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have an extremely distinguished board that have been active in the fight for equality for decades. Our founder Robin Morgan has been a feminist activist since the 1960's and founded the Sisterhood is Global Institute in 1984, along with Simone de Beauvoir, the famed writer and philosopher, writing about feminine oppression since the 1940's. On our board are other famed feminists, lawyers, and public figures and these connections have opened doors, allowing us access to political and public figures and be active participants at the UN.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
To date, we have raised over $3 million for the 14 front line organizations we support. We will continue to fight for equality and fundraise on behalf of our partner organizations who are striving to make the world a safer place for women and children.
