Mission

The Opera Foundation supports young American Opera singers abroad by awarding Scholarships to qualified singers between the ages of 18 and 30. Auditions are held annually in New York City, typically in December. The Foundation awards up to five professional Scholarships to qualified singers every years and places them with partnering Opera houses in Europe. These currently include Deutsche Oper Berlin, Die Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, and the Teatro Regio do Torino. These Scholarships are given in the spirit of cultural exchange between the United States and other Opera supporting countries. The Opera Foundation has awarded more than 50 Scholarships to young American singers since 1986.

Notes from the nonprofit

The Opera Foundation has the intention to expand its activities into other countries in Europe beyond Germany and Italy.
