New Work Series

Fall and Spring New Work Series

Emerging Artists(EAT) New Work Series is a 3 week series that provides an opportunity for artists without the means to see their work before an audience for one night and then have a dialogue with the audience to move that work forward.

It is open to all residents of NYC and in the areas of female and male solo work, new musicals, 2 person plays, nontraditional, puppetry, and dance/movement pieces. Emerging Artists provides a supportive environment that includes a professional theatre space, limited free rehearsal space, printing of series brochures, and all technical personnel. The artists are not charged any fee to submit or to participate. The series is designed around the artists and providing the support needed to get their work before an audience. Between 50 and 65 artists are selected based on where they are in their process and how the audience interaction can be beneficial to evolving their work.
This is the incubation stage for the artists work and where many pieces begin that have moved on to the Fringe, Edinborough, NYMF, and around the world.

For most of these artists, it is the first time their work has been experienced by an audience. Both series will be held at the Tada Theatre space at 15 West 28th Street, 2nd floor -a 99 seat professional theatre. Tickets are $10 in order to make it affordable and to encourage large audiences, so when the artists ask their specific questions, they can get a response from a diverse and engaged audience.
The New Work Series will be in its 15th season and continues to expand to include more areas of artists work, where the audience plays a key role in helping with its development.
EAT believes that since it is the artists work, it should remain in the artists control. Through different and exciting interactions with audiences, EAT helps to guide this interaction to be the most beneficial to the artist and their idea. And most importantly, Emerging Artists provides the necessary backdrop of resources so that there is no cost to the artists involved and does not believe in charging artists. This factor alone makes Emerging Artists unique and a true refuge for the underserved artist who does not have the means to develop their work.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Looking to try and buy a building so we can have a permanent home for the next 25 years

Currently have found an old theatre for sale and are going to view the space with a developer

If we can work out as deal with the developer to buy the first 3 levels of the building, then we can start a capital campaign for our 25th Anniversary next year to raise the money

Going to view the space and have initial meetings with the developer
