What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Center for the Advancement of Women conducts in-depth research that we then use as an advocacy tool to advance issues of importance to women. We are as committed to getting the facts as we are to using them to change the way women are treated.
Current Programs Include:
Progress and Perils: New Agenda for Women
The Center's most recent research project is a groundbreaking, two-year study of more than 3,300 women that uncovers startling facts on how women view issues related to gender and the role it plays in their lives. Key findings indicate that quality of life issues prevail over rights issues and violence and equal pay top women's priorities. In spite of the fact that support for a women's movement has weakened in the past two years, a majority of women believe that more effort is needed to improve the status of women in the United States today. Women are now more concerned with a broader range of issues and want a movement that focuses on better treatment of women in society.
A summary of Progress and Perils is available at our web site: www.advancewomen.org. We are currently undertaking a full-scale campaign to educate the media, the public, and policy makers. This study holds the potential to set the agenda for a different kind of women's movement that addresses the issues of today's women. It is the foundation for the advocacy work that must be done in order to bring these critical issues to the attention of policy makers and effect change. The Center for the Advancement of Women is leading the way - taking steps necessary to shape this movement in order to benefit women everywhere.
National Data Center on Women
We are developing a national data center on women that will be the first broad-based data archive devoted exclusively to gathering, organizing and linking data on women. This national data center will be supported by the extensive public opinion research the Center has commissioned and compiled. We hope that it will become an indispensable resource for the analysis of existing and emerging trends that influence women's advancement.
Federal Budget Analysis Project
The Center's budget analysis project will examine the impact of the federal government's budget allocation on women. We will focus on major concerns identified in our opinion research, such as economic opportunity, violence, health care, and education.
