What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Grantmaker Services

Grantmaker Services and Programs - We work with grantmakers – foundations, corporate grantmakers, and government - to provide capacity-building services for mission-critical grantees and communities, supporting needed change and building leadership impact, and measurable outcomes.  A sampling of our current partnerships include: Clark Foundation, NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), NYC Small Business Services (SBS), PSEG, Victoria Foundation, Walton Family Foundation, and Westchester Community Foundation.

Support Center works directly with nonprofit leaders to increase organizational effectiveness, in areas including strategic planning, succession planning, board development, restructuring (including mergers, partnerships, and internal restructuring), executive coaching, human resources, and financial management. We leverage the skills and expertise of over 40 affiliated consultants to best address an organization’s needs. Our consultants, coaches, and staff have decades of experience working in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and public interest fields.

Professional and Leadership Development
Support Center offers affordable workshops, convenings, and multi-day customized trainings that provide tools and strategies to empower nonprofit leaders and staff and increase their effectiveness. We also work with partners to plan and implement forums, panels, and conferences that bring together nonprofit organizations and funders to share learning and drive innovative, cutting-edge thinking in the sector. Topics include management and supervision, effective communications, board effectiveness, performance management, proposal writing, outcomes measurement, succession planning, and more. Support Center also offers the Leadership Collaborative, a 10-session program that engages emerging social sector leaders in a structured peer learning environment, and the New ED Institute, a 2-day boot camp for new nonprofit leaders.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Support Center’s Organizational Navigation Program supports long-term change in organizations that are working to negotiate shifts in their operating environment or phases in their growth. Our navigators are experienced nonprofit leaders who serve as organizational coaches. After administering a baseline assessment, navigators help organizations measure their progress. This program is designed to leverage the knowledge and experience of a navigator, improved data tracking, and the commitment of leaders to improve their organization’s results. Support Center typically works with organizations for 12-24 months (or longer).

Population(s) Served
Adults

Support Center's approach to executive transition covers the full leadership transition process, from succession planning and potentially placing an interim executive, to recruiting and hiring a new long-term leader, and to supporting a new executive with intensive on-boarding designed to ensure sustainable success. Our goal is to help organizations maintain their strengths and values, minimize the risks they may face, and solidify their standing with all stakeholders. This integrated approach streamlines the transition process for boards and enables organizations to keep running their programs and services at full capacity while undergoing the search for their next executive director.
