Mission

Brain tumors are now the leading cause of cancer deaths of children and young adults. The emotional and financial devastation it causes to families is unacceptable. The cure will eventually be found. We intend to speed up the process by speeding up the exchange of information - networking with the researchers, patient groups and other nonprofits; raising money for research; advocating for change;  hosting conferences and running research projects.
Until that happens, we will help support families dealing with brain tumors by educating them on the choices they have to make, help find options for them, and even help them get access to the treatments they need with both our advocacy program and our copayment assistance program

Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Brain Tumor Research

We search out, help mold and then fund research projects that may have a major impact for the fight against brain tumors. We have an excellent track record of finding projects that have had major impacts including early work on 3 of the most promising vaccines in trials now.  See virtualtrials.com/grants.cfm for list of the projects we funded.
Donations from the public are used 100% for either funding research or presenting educational programs (unless they specifically tell us to use it for our expenses). Our overhead is covered by sponsors to our website and private grants from other brain tumor foundations.

Population(s) Served

We partner with other brain tumor organizations (via the Grey Ribbon Crusade greyribboncrusade.org) to combine fundraising with raising awareness through a national series of 5k runs / fun walksduring brain tumor awareness month in May  under the name National Walk To End Brain Tumors

Population(s) Served

The Brain Tumor Virtual Trial is a registry of brain tumor patients, the treatments they do and the outcome. The purpose is to find out which treatments are working the best (and the worst) as well as find out what treatments are in use around the world.

Population(s) Served

Our award winning website is the oldest, largest and one of the most popular resources for brain tumor information. We received over 3 million visits last year from over 200 different countries. We run 18 online support groups for various niches in the brain tumor area, serving over 5,000 participants.

Population(s) Served

We usually present 1 or 2 patient educational conferences every year. These are videotaped and presented on our website at virtualtrials.com/video.cfm for free. Visit http://virtualtrials.com/news.cfm(http://virtualtrials.com/news.cfm)  for a list of conferences!
