Mission

The Voice Health Institute (VHI) is an independent federally-approved (501c3) nonprofit public charity organization that was founded in 2003 by patients who suffered voice loss and struggled to find effective treatment. The VHI's mission is to raise charitable funds to support research, education and outreach programs that will improve the standard of care for voice and upper airway problems. It has been the most successful organization of its kind and more than 90% of the funds that VHI raises are used to support these programs.

Voice is the foundation of normal human communication. Unfortunately, many millions of people suffer from the devastating personal and social-economic consequences associated with voice loss caused by disease or trauma. This includes vocal cord cancer, precancerous dysplasia, paralysis, bleeding, polyps, nodules, infectious diseases such as HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP) and airway obstruction.

The Voice Health Institute aims to improve the standard of care provided to patients with vocal cord cancer, precancerous dysplasia, paralysis, bleeding, polyps, nodules, infectious diseases such as HPV, Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP) and airway obstruction. In addition to improving the standard of care, the VHI aims to advance research and education programs in Laryngology and to deliver information about voice disorders and breakthroughs to the public through outreach programs.

The VHI supports medical-surgical multidisciplinary research at world-class institutions, education programs and outreach to continue to advance the standard of care and to restore the speaking and singing capability to millions of individuals whose voices have been lost or damaged by disease or trauma. The VHI also supports both clinical and research fellows in laryngology, allowing more surgeons to be trained in state-of-the-art methods of treating voice problems and provide the best care to more patients. leading to the initiation of clinical trials in laryngological surgical interventions in voice care and restoration. Additionally, the VHI sponsors training for doctoral and postdoctoral scientists interested in voice-related sciences.
