Mission

The purpose of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) is to generate, disseminate, and promote the knowledge and practical applications of acoustics around the world.

The ASA annually awards fellowships, scholarships, and research grants, and travel grants in support of graduate and undergraduate study of acoustics.

Hunt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Acoustics

The F. V. Hunt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship was established by the Society to support research on a topic in acoustics.

Population(s) Served

The Acoustical Society of America established a Minority Fellowship in 1992 with the goal of supporting minority students in their pursuit of graduate-level degrees in acoustics. To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must have permanent residence or citizenship in the United States or Canada at the time of application. He/she must also be a member of a minority group (Hispanic, African American or Native American) that is underrepresented in the sciences.

This scholarship honors the memory of Professor Raymond H. Stetson, a pioneer investigator in phonetics and speech science. Its purpose is to facilitate the research efforts of promising graduate students.

The Leo and Gabriella Scholarship in Architectural Acoustics and Noise Control has been established to support graduate study in the fields of architectural acoustics and noise control. One scholarship will be awarded each year to a student who is a US citizen enrolled in any university that offers a graduate degree program in architectural acoustics or noise control.

The Frank and Virginia Winker Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Study in Acoustics was establshed to support graduate study in the fields of architectural acoustics noise control, or engineering acoustics. One scholarship will be awarded each year to a student who is a US citizen enrolled in any university in the United States that offers a graduate degree program in architectural acoustics, noise control, or engineering acoustics. The first scholarship will be awarded in 2017.

The objective of the Robert W. Young Award for Undergraduate Student Research in Acoustics is to encourage undergraduate students to perform independent research in acoustics and related topics.
