What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Troop Pathway
The traditional pathway into Girl Scouting: girls can join a Troop mentored by adult volunteers. Troops cane be with girls their age or multiple age groups. Troops set their own schedules for meetings (weekly, biweekly, monthly) and the girls and mentors decide what activities they will complete.
Camp Pathway
Girls can participate in Girl Scouting by attending outdoor education programs. Day and resident camp programs are offered during the summer months at Camp Is-Sho-Da in East Greenbush, Hidden Lake Camp in Lake George, and Lake Clear in Lake Clear. Evening, weekend, and school break programs are offered throughout the school year. Programs include outdoor adventure programs like high ropes courses, rock climbing, backpacking, archery, white water rafting, kayaking, hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, stand up paddle boarding, orienteering and geocaching, jackknife safety, fire safety, and outdoor cooking. Environmental programs focus on Leave No Trace ethics, animal tracking, botany, pond and watershed study, space exploration, and learning how to become a citizen scientist.
Travel Pathway
Girls can take part in travel programs which range from local trips within the region or state, to traveling to other states or countries. Some trips are planned by a group of local girls, some trips are planned by the council, and some trips - known as destinations - are planned by Girl Scouts of the USA or other Girl Scout councils.
Event Pathway
Special events are offered to girls at different times of the year, based on a variety of themes. Girls may choose to participate in an event or multiple events as her pathway in Girl Scouting. Events often focus on the program pillars of entrepreneurship, outdoors, life skills, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Many programs engage girls in exploring a range of career options.
Series Pathway
Groups of girls meet in multiple sessions to work on activities that relate to one topic. Series pathways currently being offered focus on engineering robotics, rocketry, advocacy, astronomy, hiking progression, and environmental studies.
Virtual Pathway
Our virtual programs launched in the spring of 2020 and engage girls in Girl Scout programs while they are at home. This opportunity makes it possible for girls to meet other girls from different regions of our council and participate in educational programs without having to travel. Program topics include STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), entrepreneurship, life skills, and outdoor skills.
