Affordable Healthcare to Underserved Populations
Dr. Barbara Baxter, Founder and Medical Director, envisioned a community clinic where people with limited access to healthcare could receive free medical services. The Agape Clinic (The Clinic) opened its doors in 1983 in a basement closet of the Grace United Methodist Church, providing free healthcare on Saturdays. In 2000, The Clinic merged with Baylor Community Care, allowing The Clinic to expand to a four-day week family medical practice clinic. At that time, partnerships grew with Dallas County Health, LabCorp, Americares and Direct Relief. These partnerships paved the way for the services provided at The Clinic to include primary and urgent care, chronic disease management, dentistry, women's health, pediatrics, mental health awareness, ophthalmology and dermatology.
From our humble beginnings over 37 years ago, The Agape Clinic has been able to maintain high quality healthcare services to the underserved populations in North Texas. The Clinic fills a need that is critical to the men, women and children who are living without any or adequate healthcare. There is no way to overcome those situations without assistance and resources. The majority of these individuals and families are living at or below the poverty level.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Agape Clinic's focus is to cultivate compelling solutions to address our population's most important needs by leveraging collaborations with health systems and universities and the sustained commitment of funders, advocates, and volunteers. Our goal is to provide unconditional medical and dental care that generate sustained and measurable improvements to our community's health.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
As we launch into 2017, Agape Clinic will embark on its first year in our new facility which has allowed our organization to double the number of patient visits compared to the previous facility. Partnerships with area health systems and universities will allow us to meet the needs of our population.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
In order for Agape Clinic to impact our community's health, we will invest time, energy and resources in building a strong relationship with our partners. We have a strong volunteer program that has expanded tremendously over the past couple of years that has brought in many providers and specialty programs for our patients.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Agape Clinic has accomplished an aggregate amount of milestones. In 2011, the clinic expanded from 5 patient exam rooms to 11 patient exam rooms. In June of 2016, the clinic was able to move to a new facility with the help of donors and funders. However, we have yet to accomplish meeting our population health metrics because of budgeting and supply restraints.
