Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Perinton Ambulance is the only emergency medical response, treatment and transport service located in the town of Perinton, New York.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Emergency Medical Services
Our primary operation is keeping ambulances on the road and staffed with crews.
Community Education
Begun in 2018, our Community Education program has broadened our Corps' relationship with the community we serve. This program brings brief educational sessions about the ambulance corps, health and wellness, and our public safety partners to community groups, senior living facilities, and more.
Part of this program includes regular blood pressure screenings at senior living facilities, the Community Center, and other multi-residential dwellings within our district.
Bystander emergency response
This program provides courses in CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed to community members. Those trained can use it to act as "immediate responders" in an emergency, providing aid until our crews arrive.
Child Safety Seat Inspections
Begun in fall 2019, our organization now offers complimentary child safety seat inspections by certified Child Passenger Safety technicians. The CPS technicians will verify the seat is right for the child, verify it is installed correctly, and provide education to parents on how to ensure proper installation in the future.
Community Loan Closet
Our Corps maintains stock of durable medical equipment to loan to residents in need. These items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, and knee scooters.
Explorer Post 547
Youth ages 14 (and completed the 8th grade) through 18 are invited to learn more about Perinton Ambulance, emergency medical services, and the health professions through our Explorer Post.
This group meets on a bi-weekly basis throughout the school year, with two-hour sessions utilizing lecture and hands-on learning. Special guests and field trips are also utilized as part of the learning process.
Many Explorers have gone on to become active EMTs, Paramedics, nurses, even physicians.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We aim to grow the organization to be able to respond to 911 medical calls and provide emergent medical care for the patients in our community as the average age of Perinton’s 46,000 residents increases.
We seek to educate the community on our role in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system and establish proactive community advocacy to penetrate the minds and hearts of the community so they understand what role we play and what we deliver.
We look to train the public to act as lay-responders before EMS arrival, including certifying the public in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and First Aid.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We plan to develop and augment our infrastructure, technology, equipment and staffing to meet the long-term needs of the Perinton community.
We will develop and implement a robust on-going training and education program for our staff, so that via continuing education we can continue to provide the highest-quality standard of care.
We will monitor 911 call volume and trends, match demand with sufficient personnel and equipment, project future growth in demand for EMS services, and recruit and retain the best personnel.
We will engage in community outreach programs including blood pressure clinics, seminars, lectures, presentations and wellness event support, as well as monthly community newsletters, open houses and presence at community events such as the Fairport Public Market and Fairport Canal Days. Also, we will host car seat inspections/installation events, a community loan closet and a Junior EMS Program for high-school students.
We will host CPR and First Aid training for the community at our facility, and advertise and market these services outside our community. We will provide CPR program support to Fairport High School so every graduating student receives CPR training twice before graduating (8th and 10th grades).
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Perinton Ambulance has provided EMS service to the town since 1965, and has provided Paramedic-level (Advanced Life Support) care since 2016. We increased our fleet in 2023 to six ambulances and two “fly cars” (support vehicles operated by Paramedics and Supervisors). We presently operate 24/7 with a staff of 24 full-time positions and approximately 40 part-time positions. Our Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) maintain a high degree of credentialization.
We have dedicated personnel on staff to plan and execute Community Outreach initiatives, programs and events.
We are an American Heart Association (AHA)-designated Training Site, authorized to teach CPR, First Aid, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses. We have a training room at our facility, and we are able to travel and bring all equipment and supplies to the customer. We have a cadre of about a dozen AHA certified instructors. We are on track to meet our goal of 1,000 CPR- and First Aid-certified high school students annually.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We are proud to have achieved the benchmark standard of 95% call response within our coverage area (the other 5% being addressed by our neighboring community EMS partners via our mutual aid agreements). We are presently on track to maintain our 95% call coverage with the projected annual growth of 4% increase in annual call volume as our community ages.
We have participated in more than 148 community outreach events and reached an estimated 50,000+ community members so far in 2023.
In 2023, we have certified over 600 community members in CPR and are on track to exceed 1,000 by year’s end.
The town recognizes the value of Perinton Ambulance as a core service to the community and has incorporated Perinton Ambulance into its governance planning process.
We have aligned our branding with our mission to be “Always There. Ever Prepared.”
We look forward to continuing to serve our community for another fifty years.
