What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Senior Services
The Gloria J. Parks Silver Enrichment Program offers a variety of free activities that keep our seniors active and engaged. They range from morning coffee and fellowship, to board games, wellness activities, lunches, fitness classes, Tai Chi, weight room and cardio room with Certified Personal Trainer, free van rides, field trips, computer classes, Wii bowling, monthly blood pressure screenings, Silver Birthday Celebrations, seasonal dance parties and more!
Youth & Teen Programs
The UDCDA's Youth Program comprises both high-quality after school and summer camp. These programs focus primarily on inner city children attending the Buffalo Public Schools and Buffalo charter schools. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program offers academic enrichment, arts, science/technology, engineering/math (STEM), health, technology, social-emotional development exercises, college and career awareness, and athletics. The Food for Thought program for teen girls includes learning nutritious cooking, friendship development, and inspiration through activities with local community role models.
Athletics
The Athletics Program at Gloria J. Parks Community Center draws over 1,000 youth annually from all over WNY, but primarily the City of Buffalo. Highlights include the UNYTS High School Summer Basketball leagues for boys and girls; the Kelly for Kids Non-High School Basketball League; men's basketball; scholarship tournaments, the Aaron Graves Tournament raises funds for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute's scholarship fund, the Sean Scott memorial Tournament raises funds for scholarships at Cardinal O'Hara High School, the Scramble Fore kids Golf Tournament benefits the Coaches for Cancer Foundation. We offer low-cost gym memberships for cardio exercise and weight lifting equipment use.
Housing
The UDCDA Housing Department, Kensington-Bailey Neighborhood Housing Services, offers a variety of resources to the community: emergency home repairs, home buyer assistance, empowerment seminars and activities, code compliance, and housing court support.
Community Development
The UDCDA facilitates and supports both large scale redevelopment projects and small scale, grassroots community initiatives.
