Emergency Physician House Calls™ transporting the PORTABLE ER®
Community-based “House Calls” conducted by a fully-equipped Emergency Physician (John A. Sterba, M.D., Ph.D., FACEP) have been officially trademarked by Saved by Grace Ministry, Inc. (East Aurora, NY) as Emergency Physician House Calls™ (EPHCs™). This does not prevent any other physician to begin independently conducting and privately billing for their own Physician “House Calls” by other names. On February 16, 2009, EPHCs™ officially began as a Non-profit, Public Charity, private medical practice of Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine for children and adults in Western New York State.. By economical advertising, community-presentations and word-of-mouth, local patients call to request EPHCs™, immediately receiving direct telephone-triage by Dr. Sterba. When determined medically appropriate, Dr. Sterba responds from home using the nation's first prototype Emergency Medicine specialty armored emergency vehicle with privately-owned, portable (hand-carried) supplies. Board-certified in Emergency Medicine (ABEM) and Urgent Care Medicine (ABUCM) for children and adults, Dr. Sterba uses 92 medical/surgical kits, pharmaceuticals, Point of Care (POC) blood chemistry laboratories, Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) and other modern technology diagnostic devices (e.g. computerized pulmonary function testing, Doppler ultrasound, etc.). Dr. Sterba provides expert advanced wound care (e.g. pressure ulcers-'bed sores', laceration repair, burn care, foreign body removal, etc.) for all ages swiftly and conveniently in the safety of patients’ homes. Emergency Physician House Calls™ are documented and published to provide very high satisfaction from patients, family members, care-givers, Primary Care Physicians/Providers (PCPs) and the community. Emergency Physician House Calls™ are documented and published to be “faster, better and cheaper” than the hospital emergency department (ED).
Recently, Emergency Physician House Calls™ provided 100 patients, especially the vulnerable “Homebound” elderly and younger-disabled patients, with faster access to the U.S. Standards of Care in Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine compared to primary care physicians, urgent care facilities and hospital emergency departments. Dr. Sterba provided a very fast response (six minutes) to conveniently deliver Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine in the safety and privacy of patients’ homes with excellent clinical outcomes and no complaints or adverse events.
