What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Air Permits Clearinghouse

Major sources of air pollution can emit hundreds or even thousands of tons of air pollution each year. Our Clearinghouse provides a map of these and other facilities, as well as links to the facilities' permit documents. This way, residents can see where pollution is coming from and which laws and regulations apply to each facility.

GASP facilitates free training for citizens to learn how to use only their eyes to make EPA-certified observations on emissions from smokestacks. Our Smoke Readers can use their training and observe any source of concern to them. Observations from our Smoke Readers have put pressure on the regulators to take tougher approaches with some polluters.

This campaign educates and empowers anyone active outdoors. Being active brings many benefits but also leads to greater intake of air pollution, since the lungs take in more air during periods of activity. We offer tips on when and where to exercise to protect one's health. We also bring air quality curricula to local schools, from Clairton to the Environmental Charter School, and work with these schools to create alternative activities for when air pollution is high. Our Clean Air Dash on 10/5/14 is a 5k that celebrates the progress we've made--hope to see you there!
