AMERICA CONTINENTAL 2000 INC

Engineering and technical support for disaster relief

aka AMECON2000   |   CORAL SPRINGS, FL   |  www.Engineers4Disasters.org

Mission

The primary geographical area of focus are the continents of the Western Hemisphere. Thus the organization derives its name, America Continental 2000. However, the vision is not limited to this part of the world, and as the organization grows in its ability to respond to situations as they arise and meet needs, the scope of action will be widen.

We provide engineering and technical assistance, consulting and advice; the providing of equipment and materials to carry out that advice; and other organizational and consulting services designed to assist local organizations and governments in preparing for and responding to disasters of all kinds including disasters caused by terrorism, environmental contamination, oil spills, earthquakes, tsunamis and water drought.

Notes from the nonprofit

Learning from the mistakes of the past.

From our experience in Haiti, we learned to develop our own plans, designs and projects.

Although we have always maintained our mission and vision within the parameters of nonprofit organizations, never received a penny of the United Nations nor the Clinton-Bush Foundation.

Private, millionaires, commercial and lucrative contracts, were very noticeable.

The quality and standards of the United Nations for the emergency shelters and transitional shelters are well below the minimum that any human being deserves. During the emergency phase are only tents and/or blue tarps and in the recovery phase are small matchboxes.

So now for the devastation left by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, we prefer not to come empty-handed or without materials and resources to make our humanitarian work.
This is a plan to build decent shelters, spacious and safe for Typhoon #Haiyan survivors . To achieve the objectives we decided to use the excellent platform that provides GlobalGiving Foundation , to get our own funds required to develop this plan.
We trust in God and in the good will of the people and companies who support us with their donations.
We truly appreciate your generosity and contributions.

According with the Report # 3, released on November 25th from the Reliefweb, one week after Hurricane Iota, the situation in Honduras and other Central American countries remains critical. Heavy rainfall and wind from the two recent hurricanes have impacted nationwide infrastructure isolating 185,000 people in Honduras, and damaging roadways, homes, hospitals and health clinics. In the Santa Barbara Department, many areas remain flooded and the region’s main airport remains closed. 2.5 million people in Honduras due to damage to health facilities. 10 health facilities in the region also report a total loss of cold-chain equipment, as facilities prepare for COVID-19 vaccine distribution. According with the Office of the Resident Coordinator and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in collaboration with the Agencies, Funds and Programs of the United Nations System, information from member organizations of the Humanitarian Country Team and official information. Covers the period from November 9 to 18, 2020, these are the HIGHLIGHTS:

Two weeks after the impact of the TT Eta, many communities in the most affected departments such as Alta Verapaz and Izabal continue to be flooded (approximately 2 meters of water) and isolated.

The main needs identified by preliminary evaluations focus on the sectors: shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene, health, food safety and protection. Coordination at the local level is important, as well as having information disaggregated by age and sex.

Losses in the health system in the departments of Alta Verapaz, Izabal and Quiché amount to more than Q5 million. In addition, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) expresses concern about the contagion of COVID-19 that may occur in shelters, since the preventive measures recommended by the MSPAS are not being taken.

Preliminary evaluations by the Ministry of Education have identified 340 schools with infrastructure damage, and the estimated amount to make the repairs amounts to Q29 million.

The Planning and Programming Secretariat of the Presidency (SEGEPLAN) announced that it will carry out an assessment of losses and damages due to tropical storms Eta and Iota.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to provide the best engineering and technical support to the communities affected by Hurricane Irma in Florida and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Also, we are planning to support the Hurricane Maria Relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

We are in the process of requesting contributions from different US Corporations and the general public. In the next few days, we will be submitting our request for in-kind contribution and monetary contributions to South Florida corporations and contractors. For more information about volunteering, please visit Volunteer Match.

Right now we don't have the resources to face the extensive devastation left by the Hurricane Irma in Florida and Hurricane Maria, but we believe that with the support of the American people we will have the capabilities to get the job done in partnership with the private sector and affected communities.

Since our formation in 1999, we have provided humanitarian aid to different parts of the world, including areas not only affected by natural disasters but also by extreme poverty. Such areas that have received our aid are Haiti, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela.
We are still working on the preliminary phase of our current relief project with the Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. We are trying to put all the components and factors on the table together due to the magnitude and extension of the devastation caused by these Hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico.
