Literacy Intervention & Remediation

Literacy is one of our programmatic areas of focus. Not reading at grade level can set back a child for life. Research shows that children who have lived in poverty and are not reading proficiently in third grade are about three times more likely to dropout or fail to graduate from high school than those who have never been poor. Our objective is to ensure students from our partner schools are reading at grade level by the time they reach third grade and they continue to read at grade level or above in the grades thereafter. We assess partner school needs and identify the curriculum, resources and staffing needed.

A school’s strategy may include any of the following:
- Early Literacy Curriculum
- Web-based Reading Curriculum
- Read Across America Volunteers
- Library Books
- Reading & Scholastic Awards
- Tutoring
