Program 1
After a lull due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, WAWA began to welcome visitors back to the Outdoor Activity Center (OAC). WAWA increased its nature-based camp,O-Academy, from 4 to 8 weekly sessions in the summer, reinstated its Great American Campout to engage youth and families in a special overnight camping experience; engaged over 500 volunteers in nearly 1,600 hours of service to maintain the trails, remove invasive species, and care for the food and wildlife gardens; distributed 312 bags of fresh produce to Southwest Atlanta families; facilitated over 530 hours of outdoor programs; led 1,314 miles of hiking trails; and engaged over 1,845 families.
Program 2
WAWA took over Thrive Outside Atlanta, a collaborative initiative of environmental non-profit organizations to engage youth from underserved communities in experiences in the outdoors. WAWA supported nearly 700 Metro Atlanta youth from Boys and Girls Clubs, Boys Clubs and City of Atlanta Camp Best Friends sites in engaging in nature-based learning opportunities at several sites (City of Atlanta parks and outdoor spaces, the Outdoor Activity Center, Chattahoochee Nature Center, Nantahala Outdoor Center, and Chattahoochee Riverkeepers Floating Classroom on West Point Lake).
Program 3
In collaboration with the Cascade Springs Nature Conservancy and the Pi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., WAWA restored and began to better protect the water quality of a natural spring at the Cascade Springs Nature Preserve adjacent to the preserve's iconic waterfall; increased safety and walkability at the preserve by repairing a boardwalk and establishing a stone walkway/stairs on the path to the waterfall; and led a frog pond restoration project in this heavily visited and used greenspace in the City of Atlanta.
