ECONOMIC JUSTICE COALITION INC

Educating, advocating & organizing for quality jobs with living wages and benefits

aka EJC   |   Athens, GA   |  https://economicjusticecoalition.org/

Mission

Our mission is to educate, advocate and organize for quality jobs with living wages and benefits. We accomplish this mission through year-long voter registration, engagement, and education and through our Workers Center, a democratically-run community hub, where we educate and cultivate worker-leaders who are empowered by their knowledge of their rights and ability to negotiate. The Workers Center assists workers in organizing a union in their workplace, recovering lost wages, or improving their working conditions.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Voter Registration and Education

We advocate ways for every citizen, especially those disenfranchised, to vote. We register voters all year long. We provide rides to the polls as well as door-to-door education.

Population(s) Served
Ethnic and racial groups
Immigrants and migrants
Economically disadvantaged people

The Workers Center is a worker-led, democratically run group that educates and empowers workers to know their rights in their workplaces. Empowered workers are better able to negotiate for improved working conditions and are better situated to organize with their coworkers for collective action or unionization. Worker-owned cooperatives empower workers, particularly in industries where worker-exploitation is more common. WCEJC cultivates worker-leaders and provides support to help those workers develop their own businesses.
