Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
First, under the guidance of Haiti’s Child Social Services, we provide holistic, residential care for children in crisis by building and operating Children’s Villages with multiple family-style homes lead by Haitian Caregivers. By utilizing our resources, relationships, and our American and Haitian staff, we strive to create a circle of care around each child with the intent of giving every boy and girl the chance to reach their God-given potential.
Second, we will utilize our platform to help create sustainable and dignified jobs to push against the poverty-driven child abandonment and child slavery cycles. We believe the best orphan care strategy starts with a fight to keep families together.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Preserving Families - The purpose of Preserving Families is to keep children in their families of origin by providing support and guidance for biological families who are committed to caring for their children, but are at-risk of abandonment or trafficking due to financial and societal challenges. We believe the best option for the long-term care of any child is within a thriving, healthy family.
Providing Families - The purpose of Providing Families is to ensure that each child who is under the guardianship of Hands and Feet Project receives high quality care, from the time that they are placed on our campus to the time that they transition into independence and community interdependence.
Restoring Survivors - The purpose of Restoring Survivors is to establish a safe and stable environment for survivors of human trafficking through rescue, restoration, and community reintegration.
Experiencing Missions - The purpose of Experiencing Missions is to provide individuals the opportunity to experience all of the beauty that Haiti has to offer through serving, exploring, and retreating at IKONDO, our mission guest village.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We use a Circle of Care strategy to make sure we are providing holistic care. The Hands and Feet Project Circle of Care is a comprehensive model that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, and educational needs of every boy and girl under our care. This model has set a standard of excellence for our teams as we approach all aspects of our work and strive to live out our mission.
Physical needs are met through regular medical visits, proper nutrition, and basic needs (clothing and safe housing).
Emotional needs are met through caregiver trainings and mental health specialists who equip children with helpful tools for well-being and are available 24/7 for children under our care.
Spiritual needs are met through attending church, worship, and bible studies with caregivers and housemates every week.
Educational needs are met through individualized education plans created based on each child’s
needs and talents and mandatory tutoring during the school year and summer to upkeep educational excellence.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
