Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Gateway House
Agape Development Ministries’ Gateway House is a residential program begun in 2008 designed to help inner city 18-25 year olds transition to healthy, independent, Christ-following adulthood. Over the course of one year, Gateway provides housing, utilities, food, transportation, and extensive counseling and career guidance in preparation for independence. Counseling includes handling conflicts appropriately and taking personal responsibility for one’s actions. Career guidance consists of resume building and interview preparation, followed by a systematic job search method that has been proven to succeed with chronically unemployed and first time workers. The Gateway House has hosted 18 residents in the past 2 years. Agape Staff live in the Third Ward in hopes of being a light to residents of Gateway House. By working, serving, witnessing, and being a good neighbor, Christ’s love will be shared in the community. See: http://agapedevelopment.org/about/programs-projects/gateway-house
Backyard Bible Club
Backyard Bible Club exists to provide the children of the neighborhood surrounding Agape Development Ministries’ Gateway house with appropriate, nurturing, consistent adult attention.
Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, from 4-5 pm, Agape provides structured, supervised after-school activities, a Bible lesson, and a snack for children to engage in and enjoy.
Agape needs volunteers to provide the highest quality experience for all the children who attend Backyard Bible Club; Volunteers who possess emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical resources, and who desire to share them with the children who attend. If you are interested in participating, please contact us!
Spiritual Retreats
Several times each year, Agape takes young adults (18-25 yrs old) on trips to clear the chaos and get back in touch with Jesus. These are particularly fruitful times to watch God at work.
Weekly Bible Study
Both men’s and women’s groups meet each week to share life concerns, pray for each other, and study the Bible.
Individual Counseling
Because of the traumatic conditions, many residents have need of counseling, which we provide. Our staff has training in pastoral care, spiritual direction, clinical therapy, and even long suffering friendship. All kinds of counsel are needed.
