ADELANTE'S PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR HISPANIC/LATINX YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES TO GAIN THE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO FUNCTION CROSS-CULTURALLY AND TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY AS INFORMED AND PRO-ACTIVE CITIZENS. ALL PROGRAMMING FOCUSES ON: ACADEMICS, CAREER EXPLORATION, CULTURAL AWARENESS, AND PERSONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT. ALL ACTIVITY IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

MENTORING, ENRICHMENT, AND AMBASSADORS PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES WEEKLY WORKSHOPS ON SATURDAY MORNINGS WITH EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND COLLEGE VISITS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LATINX STUDENTS IN THE LOUISVILLE AREA. EACH WEEKEND THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR WE ENGAGE COMMUNITY LEADERS AS PRESENTERS TO SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE WITH OUR GROUP OF 6TH-12TH GRADE ACHIEVERS. WE ALSO TAKE OUR ACHIEVERS ON FIELD TRIPS TO VARIOUS ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR OPTIONS AFTER GRADUATION.OUR MENTORING & ENRICHMENT PROGRAM IS HELD AT TWO SITES, DOUGLASS BLVD. CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND THE AMERICANA COMMUNITY CENTER.WE CONDUCTED 40 WEEKS OF PROGRAM WITH ACTIVITIES INCLUDING: *WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS, INCLUDING ART THERAPY, "ARMY TRIAGE AND STOP-THE-BLEED" TRAINING, KARATE AND MARTIAL ARTS, HISTORY OF GLOBAL DANCE CULTURE, CHEMISTRY IN THE REAL WORLD, A "MAKING CHOICES" POVERTY SIMULATION, AND MORE*FIELD TRIPS TO: UPS WORLD PORT, METRO LOUISVILLE ANIMAL SHELTER, CHURCHILL DOWNS MUSEUM, AND E.P. TOM SAWYER STATE PARK*COLLEGE PREP, INCLUDING ACT INTENSIVE, GOVERNOR'S SCHOLARS PROGRAM PREPARATION AND APPLICATION ASSISTANCE, AND COLLEGE VISITS TO BEREA COLLEGE, NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY, EASTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY, AND SPALDING UNIVERSITY*COMMUNITY SERVICE WITH MAYOR'S GIVE A DAY, LOUISVILLE METRO PARKS, THE SALVATION ARMY RED KETTLE KITCHEN KENTUCKY DERBY FESTIVAL MINI/MARATHON, AND BERNHEIM FORESTIN FALL 2018 AND SPRING 2019, 75 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTENDED OUR MENTORING & ENRICHMENT PROGRAM.THE AMBASSADORS PROGRAM IS A LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR ADELANTE STUDENTS IN THEIR JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL. THESE STUDENTS STEP UP AS ROLE MODELS IN THE SATURDAY MENTORING & ENRICHMENT PROGRAM, LEADING GROUPS AND GAMES WITH YOUNGER ACHIEVERS. ADELANTE AMBASSADORS ALSO PROVIDE INPUT AND FEEDBACK IN THE CURRICULUM PLANNING PROCESS, REPRESENT THE STUDENT VOICE AT VARIOUS EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE CITY, AND ORGANIZE ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY.

AFTER SCHOOL ACADEMIC SUPPORT & COLLEGE CORPS: TWICE WEEKLY STUDENTS MEET WITH VOLUNTEER TUTORS AND INSTRUCTORS FOR TUTORING AND HOMEWORK HELP. OUR VOLUNTEERS ARE GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION MAJORS FROM BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE, AND STUDENTS FROM THE TOP HIGH SCHOOL THROUGHOUT JEFFERSON COUNTY. WE CONDUCTED 26 WEEKS OF THE PROGRAM (52 SESSIONS TOTAL) OF AFTER SCHOOL SUPPORT FOR 45 TOTAL STUDENTS ON WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS AT LASSITER MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE COLLEGE CORP FOCUSES ON PREPARING JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LATINX STUDENTS TO ACCESS AND SUCCEED IN COLLEGE. IN THIS PROGRAM, WE PAIR STUDENTS WITH LOCAL PROFESSIONALS WHO BECOME THE STUDENTS' MENTORS FOR THE LENGTH OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. THIS COLLEGE CORP MEETS ONCE A MONTH ON A SATURDAY, OFFERING WORKSHOPS WHERE STUDENTS AND MENTORS LEARN ABOUT COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE IN GENERAL. STUDENTS ALSO VISIT UP TO 4 COLLEGES EACH ACADEMIC YEAR.
