Health Care and Pharmacy Services for the Underserved
We provide primary health care services for those who are under 300 percent of federal poverty level and have no health insurance coverage or are insured by Medicaid or Medicare.
We provide pharmacy services for those who are uninsured.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The health status of patients will improve as a result of the services received at BHMC.
High quality operations will be facilitated through documentation of internal policies and procedures, and adoption of formal quality assurance practices.
Collaborations and partnerships will be maximized in order to strengthen and broaden organizational impact.
Financial contributions from all segments of the community will increase by 5% each fiscal year.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Determine the appropriate tool to measure provider productivity by September 30, 2022.
Determine the appropriate tool to measure improved health outcomes by September 30, 2022
Determine the appropriate tool to measure the effectiveness of the Chronic Care Management Program developed by ED and Pharmacist in Charge by December 31, 2022.
ED will create, and Board will approve, a Policy and Procedure Manual and Employee Handbook to ensure the provision of consistent, continuous, and comprehensive services, by September 30, 2022 and ongoing.
ED and Medical Director will create and lead a robust Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance Committee composed of ED, MD, Practice Manager and Clinical Staff by September 30, 2022 and ongoing.
ED will review, define, expand, and formalize beneficial inter-agency referral arrangements with nearby health care safety net organizations, initiated by September 1, 2022 and ongoing.
ED will pursue formal partnerships with regional health-related institutions, as necessary and appropriate, for efficient and effective delivery of wellness and prevention-focused health information to the general public, by September 1, 2022 and ongoing.
ED will review, define, expand, and formalize beneficial partnerships with regional institutions of medical and pharmacy education, initiated by September 1, 2022 and ongoing.
ED will develop a strategy for ongoing and strategic contribution solicitation and donor engagement, including the development of a strong Case Statement, by September 30, 2022.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
BHMC has the leadership (Board of Directors, Executive Director, Medical Director, Practice Manager) and the healthcare and administrative staff to meet these goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
BHMC leadership continue to work on tools to measure provider productivity, health outcomes, and the effectiveness of the Chronic Care Management program.
The employee handbook (updated) has been approved by the Board of Directors.
The policy and procedures manual (updated) will be completed and approved by September 30, 2022.
A recent partnership with the Wytheville Farmers' Market is proving to be beneficial in helping to improve health outcomes.
Wellness classes offered on-site once a month began in April 2022, this is also proving to beneficial in helping to improve health outcomes.
The use of donor management software (implemented July 2021) is improving contribution solicitation and donor engagement.
