What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Interpretive Services
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) provides interpretive services to assist patients in their preferred language. Interpretive services are supplied both in person and via a software interface with live language interpreters. This enabling service benefits patients in all EIHC service lines: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Dental and Behavioral Health.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Eastern Iowa Health center is pursuing internal education and certifications under the focus of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The goal of this work is to grow cultural competency practices while interacting with both staff and patients. This work will benefit staff and patients in all five EIHC service lines of Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Dental and Behavioral Health.
Family Planning and Reproductive Health
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) is a recipient of funding that assists in providing both obstetric and gynecological care. This program includes services from planning, to conception, through birth and post-partum care. Additionally, sexual education and STD prevention and testing are offered. Birth control education and methods are also included. Additional funding assists lower income women receive cervical cancer testing and vouchers for breast cancer testing.
Free-to-Patient Transportation
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) has received grant money to support a free-to-patient transport bus. The bus accommodates standard riders and those with wheelchair, scooter, or other mobility devices. The bus features an embedded tablet with interactive, multilingual information about the EIHC services lines of Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Dental and Behavioral Health. Information regarding COVID-19 education, testing, vaccination and boosters will also be shared in multiple languages via the embedded interactive tablet. Information regarding all vaccinations and boosters offered at EIHC will also be shared in multiple languages.
Integrative Health Care
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) is expanding the Eastern Iowa Dental Clinic (EIDC) to be able to serve more in need. In addition, we have received funding to train Family Medicine and Pediatric Providers to conduct preliminary oral health examinations and to provide oral health education guides. An embedded dental hygienist will be located in the Family Medicine and Pediatric clinics to provide better cross-referral between Family Medicine and the EIDC and between Pediatrics and the EIDC. A long-term goal is to schedule EIDC visits on the same day as other service line visits to strengthen EIHC's Integrative Health Care Approach. This is especially when patients are hourly workers so they can get health care appointments accomplished in one day instead of two days, which can be interruptive to work schedules.
Dental Procedure Cost Assistance
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) receives support to help patients achieve needed oral health care at Eastern Iowa Dental Center (EIDC) even when it is beyond the patient's financial capacity. EIDC accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and serves the uninsured and underinsured. A sliding fee scale is offered to all who qualify. Most EIDC patients are government insured, uninsured or underinsured.
The State of Iowa has capped Medicaid dental coverage at $1000 per patient annually. When those patients need more than $1000 worth of care, there is an alternate funding source to assist. When any patient needs oral health care than cannot be paid for by other means, the alternate funding source is used to assist. EIDC serves all patients regardless of ability to pay.
Colorectal Cancer Screening
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) provides free colorectal screening kits to patients. This health assessment is offered to all patients with social and cultural sensitivity.
Service Co-Pay Assistance
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) provides patients with service co-pay assistance measures. When patients do not qualify for enrollment in government insurance programs, they are offered a sliding fee scale to reduce the cost associated with their encounter. When that cost is unable to be met EIHC uses designated funding to pay for the service co-pay cost. EIHC serves all regardless of ability to pay.
Prescription Cost Assistance
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) has designated funding to help patients pay for needed prescription medications. Qualifying patients are offered 340B prescriptions. The 340B program is a federal medication cost fixing program. If patients do not qualify for 340B or if the remaining cost is still unachievable through other discount programs, EIHC is able to pay for prescription medications.
Veteran Services
Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) receives funding to sensitively and accurately identify Veteran patients. Assessments are made of the Veteran and referrals are made to Veteran Affairs services as needed or as wanted by patient.
