What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Green Assistance Program (GAP)
We developed the Green Assistance Program to aid local non-profits and community centers that desire to green their buildings. The premise of the program is to rally the expertise in the green building community in service to these other institutions that support the community and provide human services in our region. The vision we have for the future is that our buildings and communities will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life within a generation. The U.S. Green Building Council community are the experts in green buildings. If we can help other non-profits lighten the burden of designing, constructing, or operating their buildings, then they can better focus on their mission--while we focus on ours: to inspire, educate and collaborate within our community to transform our built environment toward true sustainability. This is about social equity, economic return and environmental responsibility.
Green Apple Day of Service
Green Apple Day of Service is an initiative from the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council that provides an opportunity for students, teachers, parents, elected officials, organizations, companies, and more to transform all schools into healthy, safe, cost-efficient, and productive learning places. Our Green Apple Day of Service efforts included educational sessions to encourage multiple projects in San Diego County, and hosting a day of service at Oceanside High School. This day of service incorporated a teacher training and school improvement projects, meeting the need for sustainability education training for teachers and upgrades to the schools grounds.
Green Homes Tour
The Green Homes Tour is a self-guided event of green buildings and design while showcasing the innovative work of some of the industry’s top professionals. The diverse projects include sustainably remodeled residences, urban multifamily developments, luxurious custom homes and many projects that have achieved or are seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, the top third-party verification system for sustainable structures around the world.
On the self-guided tour attendees may visit as many of the homes as they would like, meet with industry professionals and learn more about the latest green home design, construction and upgrade options. Each eco-friendly project features a number of innovative, high-performance design features including impact areas such as energy, water conservation, building materials, indoor air quality, landscaping, and sustainable building sites.
Education
The San Diego Green Building Council offers diverse content and delivery of green building and sustainability education. Two signature monthly events: Lunch+LEED and GREENMEET are open to public and combine networking, tours and education opportunities. Workshops and study groups are offered to support professional accreditation exams for LEED and WELL systems, Green Building Certified Professional in Green Building Fundamentals and Operations and Management. Custom hands-on learning opportunities are available on as needed basis.
