What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to provide emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and/or disabled individuals, and their families, who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means. The purpose of Builders Care is to promote safe and healthy housing for seniors and disabled individuals of all ages. Builders Care improves the health and well-being of families and individuals in our community by providing home repair services at no cost to those who could not otherwise afford it; leaving one of our most fragile populations at risk. Some of the repairs and renovations we provide is making homes handicap accessible, building/installing wheelchair ramps, installing non-slip flooring, complete bathroom renovations for handicap accessibility, replacing and/or repairing roofs, electrical and plumbing repairs, installing heating and air conditioning, addition of grab bars, widening doorways for accessibility and extensive repairs due to extremely unsafe conditions.
Builders Care helps elderly and/or disabled individuals remain independent and continue living in their homes by providing home renovations and accessibility at no cost to the homeowner.
Making a difference. One life-changing gift at a time.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Builders Care relies heavily on donated services and materials but also discounted services from contractors, subcontractors and, businesses. Along with monetary donations and financial assistance through grants, we can leverage and stretch every dollar to help more families and individuals in need. Annually, Builders Care has two events in which 100% of the proceeds go directly to supporting our mission of providing emergency construction services at no cost to needy and deserving elderly and/or disabled homeowners, and their families, who cannot obtain repairs through traditional means.
The community also participates by providing fundraising services and volunteers to work on renovation projects to provide critical housing repairs for our neighbors in need.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Builders Care has a 14-member, volunteer Board of Directors consisting of building industry experts and community members who play an active role in guiding the organization and the organizations two full-time staff.
Experienced staff including the executive director and project assistant work with the Board of Directors to fulfill a core need in our community.
Between the Builders Care Board of Director and staff there is over 15 years’ experience with Builders Care and 30+ years in construction.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
To date, Builders Care has provided over $4.8 million dollars to over 425 elderly and/or disabled individuals of all ages in need. We take great pride in knowing that our partners stand behind us and continue to work with us on several projects a year. Additionally, we are happy to see an increase in the number of volunteers participating in our program.
