Mission

The La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership exists to improve the health and wellness of the community.  We do this by supporting projects, providing opportunities and mobilizing resources throughout the La Crescent, MN area that will connect people within the community and empower them to achieve health and wellness in all aspects of their lives.

Neighbors in Action

The mission of Neighbors In Action is to connect older people to resources that improve their quality of life, help them age safely, and enable them to engage in their community. We utilize both volunteers and paid staff to provide basic home tasks, transportation, companionship, socialization and information and referrals for services beyond our scope.

Seniors

An annual one-day event that serves older adults and other individuals who need assistance with spring yard work. Volunteers work in teams to rake lawns, clean up gardens and wash windows.

Provides enjoyment and enrichment to the lives of individuals through the use of animal assisted activities. Volunteers take their special pets to healthcare facilities throughout Houston County and surrounding communities to socialize and be petted, creating a therapeutic atmosphere. In addition, the program offers the service of a reading program which helps improve a child’s reading skills using dog companions.

A recreational program serving individuals with disabilities. We provide fun and educational opportunities to enhance the participant’s emotional physical, and psychological development through the use of the horse. Located in rural Hokah, the center offers seasonal riding lessons provided by certified instructors and trained volunteers in a safe and comfortable environment. WRRTRC is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) center member.

Established in 2006 as a collaboration with Messiah Lutheran Church the goals of the garden are:
-To offer garden plots to members of the La Crescent community
-To encourage participants to eat seasonally and locally
-To grow food for ourselves, the local food shelf and others
-To garden as organically as possible
-To create an opportunity for community members to work together

Established in 2009 through the Active Living La Crescent program the Bike Shoppe aims to provide the community an opportunity to learn bike maintenance skills, recycle used bikes and increase the number of safe bikes on the streets .

Appleseed Community Theatre provides opportunities for La Crescent area youth and adults to participate in the theatrical experience, as actors, volunteers, production staff, and audience members. Appleseed produces two productions each year including their summer show which has 6-8 performances and utilizes 100+ volunteers including actors, stage and production crew, musicians, and others.
