Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our children get theirs eyes and ears checked in school. What about their hearts? Sudden cardiac arrest takes the lives of thousands of children every year. It is the #1 cause of death of student athletes. We raise awareness, provide free heart screenings and promote the availability of AEDs in an effort to prevent sudden cardiac arrest and death in children.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Protect this Heart Screenings
Simon's Heart provides free heart screenings to students between the ages of 12 - 19 for the purpose of early detection of heart conditions that can lead to sudden death.
Got AED
Got AED is a crowdfunding site dedicated to placing AED devices where kids learn and play.
Flyers Overtime Challenge
Sudden death is a great way to decide a hockey game. It is a terrible way to lose a teammate. Every time the Philadelphia Flyers end a game with a sudden death period, we'll donate an AED device to a local youth facility.
HeartBytes
HeartBytes is a digital cardiac registry of seemingly healthy kids that provides qualified researchers with free access to data. The data is crowdsourced from organizations engaged in youth heart screenings. The data contains medical and family history, vitals, and ECG, and in some instances an echocardiogram.
AED Madness
Division I Male Basketball players are at the greatest risk of sudden cardiac arrest. During college basketball season, we visit the NCAA teams in Philadelphia, educate the fans during a timeout and select a youth facility that receives an AED device.
CPR Jukebox
Saving a life is serious. Learning how to do it doesn't have to be. The Jukebox teaches students how to perform chest compressions using music and balls.
