GREAT MARRIAGES FOR SHEBOYGAN COUNTY INC
STRENGTHENING AND ENRICHING RELATIONSHIPS TO HELP KEEP FAMILIES HEALTHY AND TOGETHER.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
There are National studies showing many of the societal issues facing our communities today are pointing to the breakdown of families. We are here to help reduce the divorce rate and teach parents how to stay together in a healthy relationship so their children learn how to have a lifelong marriages and pass this example to many future generations. Children look to their parents to see what a healthy relationship looks like. Great Marriages believes marriage is the pillar of society. We support and promote marriage by educating the community on the importance of marriage as a necessary foundation of our society, which is vital to the health of the community in which we live.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Couple to Couple Mentoring
Couple to Couple Mentoring, through the curriculum "Prepare and Enrich" is the core of our program. We use it for married or engaged couples that want to strengthen and enrich their relationship. Couples meet individually with trained, certified marriage mentors to learn skills that will aid in overcoming any challenges to build a happy, healthy relationship and a strong marriage. This program is specifically tailored to each couple. There are 6-10 weekly sessions.
Date Nights
Date Nights are designed to keep couples connected and to enrich their marriage. We believe you should never stop dating your spouse, so we offer monthly Date Nights for couples to come out and have a catered dinner and listen to a speaker about a specific relational topic.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The primary goal of Great Marriages is to see a community of vibrant, strong, joyful, life-long marriages. We want to reduce the divorce rate, increase the marriage rate, keep children in homes with their parents, and help dating and premarital couples prepare for the future.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Great Marriages makes extensive use of marriage mentors who are trained and certified in marriage mentoring and provide couple-to-couple sessions educating and promoting communication and conflict resolution skills. We use mentors, not trained counselors or therapists. Our mentor couples have experienced trials and tribulations in their own marriages over the years and wish to share with you how they were able to work together as husband and wife to overcome challenges, big and small.
In additional to our mentoring program, we offer monthly educational event. These events consist of a catered dinner and a speaker who focuses on a relationship topic. This is a chance for couples to connect in a laid back atmosphere while enriching their relationship.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Great Marriages has a team of committed volunteers and mentors (20+ mentor couples) who are passionate about our cause. In addition, the support of the community provides us with the necessary resources to provide services to singles, dating, engaged and married couples. Mentor couples work with individual couples for an average of 8-10 weeks. At any given time, we have approximately 20 mentor couples working diligently to teach couples the necessary skills to have a life-long marriage.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In 2019 we reached over 3,000 people through our programs and initiatives. We mentored almost 200 people and we affected the lives of nearly 200 children by mentoring their parents. Over 650 people attended our monthly events or workshops. We saw a significant increase in our Latino programming by offering mentoring and date nights completely in Spanish.
