Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Thousands of local causes depend on volunteers to operate and make a dent in vital social issues, yet only about 1 in 4 locals in our community volunteer each year. Activate Good aims to activate volunteers to help charitable causes in our local community and inspire thousands of new area residents to get engaged in the community.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Volunteer Community
The Volunteer Community is our online platform that connects volunteers and nonprofits to one another while facilitating sign ups for volunteer activities, and tracking volunteer hours and impacts. The Volunteer Community also encompasses our large-scale days of service, such as National Volunteer Week, 9/11 Day of Service, and others.
Activate Schools
Through our Youth Volunteer Programs, Activate Good developed and integrated an elective curriculum into local High Schools that will teach students how to volunteer and find community resources about volunteerism and social change, how to create, conduct, and lead service projects and efforts and all about prominent social issues and causes and approaches to solving them. Students taking the course will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on service projects, discussion and debates, and to meet community leaders working on our area's issues everyday.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We believe we all have a responsibility to work towards a better world. That’s why Activate Good improves our community through people-powered projects for good.
Activate Good envisions a world in which all people realize and act on their power to improve their communities.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Activate Good works to connect people day to day to opportunities to make an impact with hundreds of local causes. We also have a 3 part long-term vision to make our region #1 in the nation in volunteering, including:
1) Improving access to volunteerism by integrating ways to get involved in local schools, companies, and commercial spaces;
2) Increasing dialogue about volunteering by engaging the media in telling more volunteer stories and encouraging grassroots conversations on community engagement;
3) Bolstering the capacity of causes to effectively manage more volunteers through volunteer management training and resources
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With a broad network of over 100 companies and 24,000 individual volunteer users, we are working hard to engage more locals in volunteer action for the benefit of causes.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Volunteers we've connected have been a part of making a big impact in our community. In 2020, 7,555 volunteer connections helped create the following impacts and much more:
* 50,000 laptops and over 10,000 WiFi hotspots distributed to Wake County students in need to learn remotely
* 2,000 handmade courage cards for hospitalized children, including 300 cards in Spanish
* 25,200 diapers packaged and distributed to families in need to keep 504 babies clean and healthy
* 147,191 meals prepared and packaged to feed families and youth in need
* 1,106 messages of companionship and support sent to isolated seniors

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
