Friends of Nalamdana

Mission

The purpose of Friends of Nalamdana, a US-based non-profit organization, is to support the work of the Nalamdana, a registered Charitable Trust located in the City of Chennai, State of Tamilnadu, India.

Since 1993, Nalamdana has entertained, educated and empowered more than 2,000,000 people in India. Nalamdana's work is based on the principle that entertainment is one of the most effective ways to motivate and persuade people to adopt better health practices.

Nalamdana uses participatory street theater, short feature films, and television programs to bring vital healthcare information to largely non-literate audiences. Additionally, our films and curricula bring these messages into schools, colleges, training programs and work places. We also developed "Thendral", a state-of-the-art cable radio station at one of the largest hospitals in Asia catering to both TB and HIV positive patients. These diverse and entertaining communication methods deftly share accurate information on HIV/AIDS and maternal and child healthcare to large numbers of people.
