Mission

Outdoor Active Education

Urban Blazers major programs include: (a) Introductory Outdoor Activities - participants are taught the basics of outdoor activities, such as hiking, river rafting, biking, rocking climbing and camping; (b) Nature Exploration - participants are taught about nature and environmental conservation through a structured, experiential hiking trip; and (c) Healthy Lifestyles - participants are taught about healthy eating and physical fitness through an experiential food preparation program, running training program and running race.

Population(s) Served

The Urban Blazers Living Classrooms Science Programs will consist of both onetime experiences and multi part programming which focus on developing interest in science, academic curiosity, problem solving skills and increase engagement in school and motivation to achieve academically. Curriculum will be developed in conjunction with Pennsylvania State Education Standards with the guidance of our advisory committee made up of scientists, educators and youth development experts and will be conducted in local natural areas and museums.
