Heart Gallery, Media and Website

Heart Gallery -- The Heart Gallery of Lane County is a portrait exhibit to raise awareness of the needs of Lane County children; those waiting and hoping for their own adoptive family, mentor or CASA to love and protect them. Professional photographers volunteer to take compelling portraits. These beautifully framed and matted portraits are then displayed, along with the children's biography, in various venues, of which we currently have nine!
Media-- We have a number of media opportunities that are used as a recruitment tool for foster children. We have two different TV campaigns running, Heart Gallery Child of the Month/Week and Thursday's Child. In addition, we have radio and newspaper opportunities weekly to highlight a child.
Our Web Site-- While the web can go hand in hand with the Gallery, it can also be a simple stand alone tool. The same photo from the Heart Gallery is put on the web with a short biography, as well as some children will have a video which really captivates families. With the caseworkers approval and a picture, the child can be on line within 24 hours. If a child is able to be placed out of the state, it opens the door for many, many more home studies, yet we also have luck on the web with in state placements. Here is a sample:

Family Finding-- This is a support program that rekindles distant relative/caring connections for youth in the foster care system through researching files as well as internet searches. A caseworker's referral is all that is needed.
Mentor Program-- Our Mentor Program is a life skills training program that matches foster teens with mentors to create inter-dependency and permanency of support. All that is required is a caseworker's referral.
Family Building Adoption Support-- Pre and Post adoption support for any family embarking on the process of adopting a foster child. We offer monthly meetings and match new families with a mentor family that has experience. We will also seek out services to support them during and after the adoption process.
Permanency Program-- Finding permanent parents for teens before they exit out of foster care, no matter what age they are, is the single greatest positive youth development program there is. The greatest need in the adoption field is to do special recruitment, retention, and support for adoption of children age ten and older. The focus of this project is to find permanent adoptive parents for teens that need a permanent placement, or to find committed permanent connections who will morally adopt teens who are not freed but are in danger of discharge from foster care to homelessness. Using a multi-prong approach, permanency, family finding, mentor, and Independent Living Skills are taught in an interdependent way.
Life Books - We assist caseworkers who do not have the time to create these special books of the child's life story for children who are in the process of being adopted. Creative people will take the child?s life story & memories and create an album telling their life story in words & ways they can remember and understand.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our vision is to illuminate the plight of America's vulnerable and forgotten foster children making foster
care truly temporary. We are here to assist families, case workers....everyone and anyone who is involved with getting
children out of the foster care system in the United States. We hope to change the foster care
system in our country one step at a time!
