Program 1

As pioneers in the area of election integrity we provide in-depth coverage of 21st century voter suppression. We produce essential voting guides and books detailing the functionality of digital voting machines. We remain a trusted information resource for the public in a critical area of democracy.

Population(s) Served

We create and maintain innovative educational programs training a new generation of journalists with our Mentor-Apprentice rogram. The program pairs dozens of aspiring writers and news reporters with seasoned veteran journalists annually. This collaboration provides cost-free post-graduate level training in news and feature writing deep investigatve research and unbiased navigation of special interest agendas.

Population(s) Served

We devote considerable effort to the research of innovative policies and procedures to share with newsrooms and other nonprofit organizations. At a time when public attention is more fragmented than ever we develop new ways to render complex issues comprehensible and interesting to the public to ensure that the most consequential matters get a fair hearing.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Problem Overview
Public trust in commercial news media has been eroded by corporate interests. This issue has been intensified by a conflation of news and propaganda , and the public’s diminished critical-thinking skills. WhoWhatWhy earns public trust by remaining totally ad-free (and so uninfluenced by corporate interests); and we are strengthening the public’s critical-thinking skills through our tuition-free media training programs.

Goals
The WhoWhatWhy editorial division has two primary goals: expanding coverage of under reported subjects and going beyond the dictates of commercial media narratives. The goal of the WhoWhatWhy educational division is to expand the public's knowledge of News Media functionality by establishing a full scope of tuition-free media industry classes, beyond just our established Journalism Apprenticeship Program.

In 2021 we completed a yearlong rebranding/redesign, which included expanding our content programming across multiple social media platforms. This effort substantially increased our site traffic and reach. Our HR department has initiated a proactive recruiting effort and a tiered recruitment program designed to anticipate the volunteer attrition rate. Our development department has begun a strategic grant-acquisition program which integrates the foundation award schedule into its planning. Our education division is developing a curriculum for cross-functional media industry training.

Capabilities - What are your organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a global staff of over 200, including established journalists, media professionals, academics, and development experts, to grow and manage our content and our funding.

Progress - What have you accomplished so far and what's next?
We have completed our redesign, and expanded our reach and our international coverage. The next steps are: advancing accreditations, increasing foundation awards, and creating a Media Industry educational curriculum.
