About the Sacramento Native American Health Center
The Sacramento Native American Health Center, Ins. (SNAHC) a non-profit 501 (c)(3) (Federal Tax ID # 20-4287737) Federally Qualified Health Center located in Sacramento, CA. We are committed to enhancing quality of life by providing a culturally competent, holistic, and patient-centered continuum of care.
We offer medical, dental, vision, behavioral health, and community health, as well as some social services and other resources; and there are no tribal or ethnic requirements to receive care here.
Medical
SNAHC's Medical Department offers:
Adult Medicine:
General medical & preventative services
Management of chronic & serious medical problems including heart disease, stroke & diabetes
Preventative care for breast, colon & prostate cancers
Hepatitis C testing, treatment, counseling & support groups
Diabetes education, prevention, self-management & support groups
Comprehensive nutritional education & dietary counseling
Confidential HIV testing & counseling
Treatment for many common mental health illnesses
Transgender Care – Hormone Therapy
Traditional Medicine
Community based vaccination program
Pediatrics:
Newborn & well-baby care
Immunizations & school physicals
Urgent appointments for sick children
Complete annual checkups
Teen Health Care:
Pregnancy prevention
Confidential HIV & STD testing & counseling
Women's Health Care:
Comprehensive women’s care including pap smears, breast exams & mammography referrals
Family planning
Pregnancy testing
Acute & chronic gynecological problems
Dental

Vision
Vision is an essential part of everyday life, influencing how all ages learn, communicate, work, play and interact with the world. Getting an eye exam is an important part of staying healthy.
SNAHC partners with community optometrist and ophthalmologist to offer the following services:
Comprehensive Eye Exams
Diabetic Eye Exams
Retinal Photography
Glaucoma Screening
Pediatric Vision Screenings
Optical Dispensary for glasses
Behavioral Health
Our Behavioral Health Department has three service categories:
Integrated Care:
The Integrated Care service category involves providing same-day consultation and crisis intervention for patients in their medical or dental appointments.
Counseling & Treatment:
This includes two types of one-on-one counseling: mental health counseling (therapy/psychotherapy) provided by Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), and Substance Abuse Counseling provided by Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADCs). While the purpose and specific approaches may vary, the overall goal is the same: to support you in your ability to manage stress and to build and maintain health coping skills.
Recovery:
This includes various groups and classes including: White Bison 12-Step Recovery Group, Healing Our People through Education (Drug and Alcohol structured curriculum), Anger Management, Parenting, Batterer’s Intervention, Culture is Prevention, Two-Spirit talking circle, and Yoga for Wellness.
Community Health
Youth Programming:
Children, youth, & young adults can connect through cultural &social activities focusing on wellness. Youth can join Native Youth Ambassadors, a youth leadership program that helps guide the work of the department.
Family Support:
Native families can access prevention, early intervention, and post-vention activities including workforce training (CalWorks), case management, referrals and advocacy.
Mental Health Clinical Services:
Counseling services offered to all self-identified Native youth & their families, who aren't already patients at SNAHC.
Cultural Programming:
Culture is Prevention is a twice-monthly program teaching traditional art to community members. Past classes included drum-making, beading, regalia, & pottery. Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) is an annual multi-day event focused on community building through belonging, mastery, interdependence, & generosity.
Suicide Prevention & Intervention:
Curriculums include Mental Health First Aid & ASIST.
