What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Hogar de Amor Children's Home (orphanage)

The Hogar de Amor (Home of Love) is located in La Ceiba, Honduras.  The orphanage is currently home to 25+ orphaned and/or abandoned & abused children who live in the home, with live-in Honduran staff and directors. The children receive much love and support from devoted local families and our local church, plus visiting volunteers.
When it first opened in May 2007, Hogar de Amor was home to 19 children. Since that year, we have consistently provided a home for many children annually. The children living in our care have experienced physical or sexual abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment.
We provide the Hogar children with food, shelter, medical care, counseling, enrollment in our Jungle School, school supplies, and clothing. Additionally, we teach them life skills that are pertinent to creating self-supportive futures.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth

The Jungle School opened its doors in 2007. The school currently has 220 students in grades Kinder through 9th. The Jungle School is located in a steep jungle area near the lower Cangrejal River Watershed, called La Herradura, near La Ceiba, Honduras.  Most of these children come from extreme impoverished conditions. For many of these students the noon time meal is their only meal of the day. Most of these children live in remote, isolated areas and face poor economic conditions.  Their families rely mostly on agriculture crops and when the crops do poorly, most struggle to find food. Our school is private and free which enables many to children to attend.
We provide the poorest students with uniforms and shoes, and all students with school supplies, school books, some backpacks & personal items, medical care, vitamins, toothbrushes/toothpaste and a daily mid-morning oat or rice & milk drink and a hot nutritious lunch five days a week. We also provide basic medical care and checkups with the help of our volunteer nurse. She worms the kids every 3 months, provides cold and flu medicines and other topical meds as needed, in addition to fluoride treatments, vitamins, toothbrushes and toothpaste for all the children, and check-ups for the single mothers and pregnant mothers. She also oversees the nutrition of the school lunches.
Weekly and daily Bible devotions are held with the children to bring them up in the way of the Lord and to teach them basic morals such as to not steal, lie and cheat. We teach them that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and with Him there is hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. Faith and a personal relationship with Jesus is the key!

Adolescents

The Campesino Peasant Villages are comprised of three different Villages called La Bomba, El Bonitillo and El Naranjo.  HHK donates food such as fortified rice, beans, clothing, shoes and toys to children and single mothers and the elderly. There are 250 families in these villages and they contain over 700 children who need help to survive and thrive.
We preach the Gospel and they learn to lean on Christ and know He is their hope and salvation.
These children come from impoverished circumstances and single mothers struggle to provide for their children. Many young teens are having babies and this perpetuates the cycle of poverty and lack.
We provide basic medical checkups and care as we are able and when groups volunteer.

Economically disadvantaged people

We partner with various local community churches, Pastors and small ministries who have established feeding centers for 150+ children that receive a hot nutritious meal several times a week in the impoverished areas of La Ceiba, El Porvenir and El Pino.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

To love and care for abused, abandoned, and neglected children along the north coast of Honduras. Kids in our children's home receive special care and attention, with a focus on education and Christian values. All children are sent on to high school with the hope and opportunity to build successful lives. Our school in the river region is the only option for the many young children in this especially impoverished region. We provide free, quality elementary education and a hot nutritious lunch. Our goal is to instill self confidence, hope, love, and opportunity for these children so that they might lead better lives. The free lunch is often the only meal many of these children will receive that day and gives them the nutrition they need to focus on their studies and remain healthy. We also provide nursing care and parasite control. Psychological counseling is provided for abused children that they may be freed from the hurts in their past. To curb hunger, food donations are routinely made to outlying villages and among struggling single parent families.

The Jungle school provides free, quality elementary school to impoverished children in the outlying river region.
Sponsorships by donors are requested for children in our orphanage and Jungle School
Our children's home provides a safe environment and we have nurturing housemothers who care deeply for them.
We encourage volunteers from all over the world to help in our various programs, particularly the school.
Our administrative staff is all-volunteer assuring that sponsorship donations go directly to the children.
Mission teams are welcome to help us with construction projects, medical, and evangelism.
