What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide for men and women in every ethnic group with 1.8 million deaths annually. In the US, more than 238,000 will be diagnosed this year and only 23% will survive five years. Recent advancements in early detection, more effective treatments, more medical centers operating at the highest standards, and more community support are bringing real tangible hope. GO2 for Lung Cancer is poised to bring profound lifesaving change using a comprehensive approach that will transform survival.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

GO2 for Lung Cancer relentlessly confronts lung cancer on every front, every day. Founded by patients and survivors in 1995, we are dedicated to increasing survival for those at risk, diagnosed and living with lung cancer. We envision a world where everyone with lung cancer survives and thrives by accomplishing these key goals:

o Increasing the rate of lung cancers diagnosed early
o Increasing the rate of comprehensive biomarker testing and precision medicine
o Increasing the reach and impact of community engagement
o Improving quality of life

Our cross-cutting strategies to accomplish these goals includes:

• Engaging and supporting people living with and at risk of lung cancer from early detection and treatment navigation to long-term survival.
• Mobilizing patient-driven research innovation to find cures.
• Expanding GO2’s Centers of Excellence (COE) Network of outstanding community hospitals so people can receive care close to home.
• Increasing federal research funding and improving accessible and affordable healthcare, especially for those vulnerable and underserved.
• Heightening awareness with campaigns to fight the stigma and promote the importance of early detection and precision medicine.
• Building community by empowering and mobilizing an army of volunteers to advocate, raise awareness and funds for lung cancer.

For almost three decades, GO2 for Lung Cancer has been a force for change for our community — challenging the status quo and disrupting norms that had stifled progress. We launched system change and will not stop until we have transformed survival.

• 884 healthcare facilities in our COE network representing 45 states, plus Washington, DC addressing health inequities by providing outstanding care in community hospitals close to home — where 80% of Americans receive their care.
• 53% early detection rate within our COE network versus the 18% national average from US medical facilities.
• 128,000 people diagnosed receiving tailored education, navigation and supportive services last year.
• 215,000 people in our database engaging with breaking news, information, and calls to action.
• 495 million audience connecting with us annually through our website, social media channels, earned media and digital education campaigns.
• 900,000+ Veterans at higher risk for the disease supported by formal agreement with the Department of Veterans.
• 6 targeted programs address health inequities, including increasing diversity in clinical trials and educating and supporting high-risk communities of color, low-income, Latino/Hispanic and Asian American about screening, treatment and survivorship.
• $200 million in federal research funding secured to date through our advocacy efforts for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.
• 2 historic legislative efforts, the Lung Cancer Mortality Reduction Act and the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act to bring national attention and priority funding to lung cancer.
• 10 research studies in progress spanning the entire continuum of lung cancer care from early detection through precision medicine into survivorship; 4 of which are innovative direct-to-patient clinical trials run by our medical research institute, the Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute,
• 34 scientific papers published and authored by GO2 staff to date, with 4 additional papers currently under review, including sexual health among women with lung cancer, using screening as a new cessation tool, community outreach education and screening, and reducing stigma.
• 15 presentations at the World Conference on Lung Cancer, including press coverage of the largest study to date evaluating sexual dysfunction of women with lung cancer, conducted in GO2’s Lung Cancer Registry
• 7 consecutive years as highest scoring lung cancer charity in the nation.
