What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Truth in Military Recruitment
We visit local area high schools regularly to offer information to students considering joining the military. This information includes pay & benefits; military lifestyle; military regulations vs. personal freedom; military career paths; length of service requirements; money for college; military sexual trauma; wounds of war including PTSD and TBI.
Public Education - True Costs of War
Tabling and public events to heighten public awareness about the true costs of war
Peace at Home; Peace Abroad
Veterans For Peace has a mission to end war and to heal the wounds of war. The National Board, along with many other members, recognizes that the violence of war has been epidemic in this country since its founding. We acknowledge the 500-year war on the indigenous peoples, the ongoing war and racism against black and brown communities beginning with slavery, the long and ongoing history of racist immigration policies, economic war against the poor of all colors and we see the connection between the violence and police militarization here in the United States and U.S. wars abroad.
Drones Quilt Project
VFP Chapter 132 is fiscal sponsor and supports the Drones Quilt Project with volunteer labor and planning.
The idea for a Drones Quilt came from some women in the UK who started the project as a way to memorialize the victims of U.S. combat drones. We believed that there were lots of anti-drone activists in the U.S. who would like to make our own version of a Drones Quilt, and so the idea traveled across the Atlantic. The idea is to collectively create a piece of artwork which connects the names of activists with those killed. The names humanize the victims and point out the connectivity between human beings. Plans for the American version of the quilt include creating educational materials, photographs and information which together with the quilts will create an exhibit which will travel the country, informing and educating the American public.
