What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

In an increasingly automated world, children have less and less opportunity to develop a work-ethic and take on responsibility. Moreover, children and youth are living their lives immersed in technology rather than having a chance to serve others. Therapeutic Ranch for Animals and Kids (TRAK) was created to strengthen kids and community through animal interaction. TRAK welcomes children with and without disabilities, allowing them to flourish in a non-judgmental, inclusive environment. Allowing children to become service providers to those less fortunate in the community develops self-confidence, vocational and business skills that are foundational for a lifetime of success. TRAK is proud to have launched an equine stress reduction program for first responders in June 2020, in gratitude to the heroes that serve our community.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Animal Assisted Life Skills

The animal assisted life skills program is designed to help children in an individual or group based counseling setting which will focus on all aspects of age appropriate life skills. The sessions will go over an array of different skills and animal aspects such as:
-Animal education/Ranch and animal care
-Self-awareness/Self esteem
-Coping skills
-Building community
-Task management
-Active listening
-Responsibility
-Relationship development
-Social Skills
The primary objective is to have fun while learning new, healthy coping and social skills. These skills will help our children learn to cope with a myriad of emotions and challenges including anger, anxiety, depression, ADHD. They will also gain improved social skills, communication skills, task management, focus, listening skills, better self-expression, and self-esteem. The students will learn responsibility through animal care and knowledge of animals through use of animal interactions. Our students will gain the ability to trust and earn trust, experience peer/community support and much, much more.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

1. Strengthening kids and community through animal interaction.

2. Creating an inclusive community united and empowered by the strength of the human-animal bond.

3. Providing unparalleled quality in equine-assisted therapy to children and adults in the eagala model.

Through a grant from Angel Charity for Children, Inc, we were able to hire a licensed psychologist and social worker, and have them trained in the eagala model of equine-assisted growth and learning. This was a key contribution to allow TRAK to expand its range of programming to equine therapy from equine -assisted learning and be able to serve more children in Pima County.

TRAK has over 30 horses on a 5 acre, peaceful ranch where reflection and self-development is made possible, coupled with a professional staff that provides a space for children to grow to reach their maximum potential. There are a plethora of opportunities, such as volunteering, learning key vocational and business skills to serve the community, as well as horseback riding lessons and more. These extended opportunities after receiving therapeutic services provide practice in using the key social, emotional and life skills attained in the eagala program.

We are expanding services to adult first responders, a long-time vision of the founders of the organization that we are now seeing become a reality with the support of our community and our board of directors. We hope to expand services offered to adults to include military veterans in the near future.
