What we aim to solve
the organization is currently in the process of reviewing and updating the long term strategic plan. A succession plan and an emergency procedure is needed in leu of a recent illness and temporary incapacity of a key person on the team.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Summer JazzFest
Every summer, Jazz Arts Project Inc. presents a six-week concert series at the beautiful Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ. Each artist performs twice, once on Friday and again on Saturday night. Past artists include Bucky Pizzareli, Wayne Escoffery, Les Paul's Trio, Cecil Brooks III, Wallace Roney, and Champian Fulton.
Jazz Arts Academy
The Jazz Arts Academy is a comprehensive jazz studies program offering performance ensembles, improvisation, general musicianship, coaching, special workshops and jam sessions in addition to jazz repertory and the history of jazz. The program will provide students with a ‘centralized Jazz scene,’ a place where they can supplement their school music program, meet new players from the entire region, and gain valuable skills and experience in a fun and professional atmosphere. Additionally, a limited number of free workshops and jam sessions will be offered during each semester.
Talkin' Jazz
April is Jazz Appreciation month as declared by the US Congress and supported and promoted by the Smithsonian Institute. While we here at the Jazz Arts Project feel that it’s important to appreciate jazz year round, we hold a series of talks by jazz luminaries every spring that serve as a great introduction to jazz for novices or as a wonderful extension of knowledge for connoisseurs. The lectures take place this year at the Count Basie Theatre every Monday in April.
Sinatra Birthday Bash
Each year, the Jazz Arts Project presents a musical tribute to one of New Jersey’s favorite sons, the great Frank Sinatra. After an extensive screening process, some of the area’s finest working saloon singers were selected to perform at last year’s event. The instrumental music was provided by the Red Bank Jazz Orchestra under the direction of our esteemed musical director, Joe Muccioli and featured some of Mr. Sinatra’s original arrangements, as well as some new spins on old classics. Critics agreed that the show was one of the best offerings of the season at the Count Basie Theatre.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
This organization carries out it's stated mission in a most unique manner. While maintaining a commitment to presenting world-class Jazz Music to regional audiences, enhancing the cultural landscape of the surrounding communities, Jazz Arts Project has developed year round educational programs serving are youth including those from at-risk and challenged communities. By empowering today's youth with tools they need to explore their own creativity and freedom of expression these programs have show significant effectiveness time and time again in the young people we are working with. The events presented at such venues as the 1500 seat Count Basie Theater and the Two River Theater serve not only as concerts showcasing guest artists who are world-class national acts in their own right but also afford a vehicle for raising funds towards the educational programs we offer at little or no cost to needy students. In addition the artists brought in are often paired with our students as mentors or clinicians enhancing their experience and enjoyment for the study of music.
We aim to provide continuing instruction and opportunities for more and more young students while building a robust audience for this great American art form.
In recent years it has been demonstrated quite effectively by such organizations as Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts and many others that jazz is much more than just an historic national treasure. It is truly a living art form with a rich and varied history and an innovative, active roster of talented artists whose performances are enjoyed by a very diverse socio-economic base. The study of Jazz is a wonderful outlet for creative energies and has been shown to enhance academic performance as well as instill positive values such as confidence, teamwork, leadership and tolerance for diversity.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Organization has developed several recurring annual events which have proven to garner a growing audience base and a dedicated group of donors who join each year as members. these events traditionally bring in funds through ticket sales and concessions which help fund our year round educational programs. Strategic partners are in place such as the Count Basie Theater, Local public schools, The Boys & Girls clubs, and the local parks & Recreation department which helps us to expand our base of students, patrons and audience members...
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
This organization is very proud of providing cultural arts enrichment to the community for more than a decade now. Because of our Artistic directors' expertise, contacts and his respect in the industry, we have been able to build relationships with international artists who lend their voices to help our mission. The organization enjoys a reputation for presenting the highest level of performances and educational services consistently performed by world-class jazz artists and instructors. The team that has been coalescing around the organization in terms of production values, event planning and development is of a very high level enabling us to attract an audience consistently at capacity or near sold out levels at our events.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Jazz Arts Project has accomplished many things over more than a decade. Just about each new program that we have presented has become an annual event because of demand and because of the support of our constituents. We have forged partnerships and collaborations with various organizations and schools in the area as well as local businesses and social groups.
What we haven't accomplished is a more consistently robust funding platform aside from our concert presentations. For the many annual events and valuable programs that we run we should have at least a 500,000 budget. we happen to make it all happen with less than half of that by tireless efforts of our Board and the many volunteers on our team. We are, however, always working on attracting more high level donors and national sponsors to meet these goals.
