PAWS OF HERTFORD COUNTY
Providing animals with welfare and security.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
PAWS's vision is a community where responsible actions result in fewer homeless dogs and cats. We serve as the primary transfer partner of the Hertford County Animal Shelter - taking 80-90% of their animals into our care annually.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Saving our Tails Building Repairs
The Saving Our Tails Building Repairs Program is to assist in making high priority repairs to our facility. We currently have two 25' x 35' portables (a pup room and a cat room) that were donated several years ago to PAWS and act as our facility on the local shelter's grounds. The floors in both buildings were recently replaced due to damage associated with age, costing thousands of dollars. We now need to replace our deck that is in serious need of repair and the air conditioning units in both portables. Replacing these needs will allow for PAWS to better focus on saving more lives in the community.
Low-Cost Spay/Neuter
Through our partnerships with local veterinarians, we are able to provide low-cost spay/neuter to the cats and dogs of Hertford County, NC whose owners wouldn't be able to provide it otherwise.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
PAWS's mission is to provide animal welfare and security within the community.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We assist animals in the community in a number of ways. 1) We serve as the primary transfer partner for Hertford County Animal Control. We take in 80-90% of their cats and dogs annually and find safe outcomes for them through our rigorous adoption and transfer programs. 2) We offer low-cost spay/neuter to community members and their pets. This services approximately 20 animals each month. 3) We offer free rabies vaccinations annually to community members and their pets to help them keep their pets safe and healthy. 4) We partner with other organizations to provide community service hours in an effort to educate others.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Through our volunteer, adoption, foster, and transfer programs, we are able to assist hundreds of animals and people each year.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have helped save the lives of over 10,000 cats and dogs since founding in 2006 through our adoption and transfer programs. Over 2,000 cats and dogs have been provided with low-cost spay/neuter and hundreds have been provided free rabies vaccinations at our annual clinics.
