BURBANK ARTS EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The Foundation provides equity and access at school sites with lower parent involvement for fundraising by granting supplemental funding for specific site programs and needs in the areas of arts, STEM, and Safety and Wellness within the Burbank Unified School District. Eight of our 16 traditional schools qualify for Title 1 funding, where 40% or more of our students come from low-income families. Minority enrollment in BUSD is recorded to be 53% of the student body. However, this number does not reflect the large number of English Language Learners who come to our community from Armenia and other countries. Forty-seven percent of our students speak a language other than English at home. In addition, the annual SAT preparation program provides access to students who would otherwise not be able to afford the advantage tutoring gives to students.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Burbank Arts & Education Foundation Grant - Giving Program
The mission of the Burbank Arts & Education Foundation is to engage and inspire the community to invest in meeting the diverse educational needs of all 15,000+ BUSD students.
The organization was created on October 1, 2020, after the Burbank Educational Foundation and the Burbank Arts for All Foundation merged to create a singular, unified voice for Burbank students.
Urgent Need for Students
Students need support now more than ever. Like many other school districts in California, BUSD faces a devastating budget crisis. Important programs and services that students need will likely suffer from lost or reduced funding. The loss may be particularly destabilizing for our most vulnerable students, whose families rely on these public-provided services.
Enhanced Support
By merging two powerful organizations, we aim to maximize our impact through more strategic fundraising efforts. The new foundation will continue to support innovation and excellence in schools, including arts education, STEM programs, student safety, wellness and other needs within BUSD.
Our goal is to provide students with the necessary building blocks to achieve academic and personal success. We empower them with 21st century skills that can be applied to any career path, and offer crucial assistance to facilitate learning.
By investing in students, we not only create more opportunities for them, we reinforce Burbank’s reputation as a thriving community dedicated to the well-being of its residents.
A History of Success
Both foundations have a long history of positively impacting and providing support to BUSD students through their robust grant-giving, advocacy, programming and community engagement programs.
Burbank Educational Foundation was established in 1982 to raise money for the BUSD. In recent years, the foundation has provided more than $437,000 in funds in support of STEM programs, teacher classroom grants, SAT Prep classes, and more, to benefit as many students as possible.
Burbank Arts for All Foundation was founded in 2006 to ensure that every student received quality arts education as part of their core curriculum. To date, Burbank Arts for All has given more than $758,000 in funds to Burbank schools supporting a wide variety of visual, media, and performing art programs, artist in residency programs, arts integration programs, professional development for teachers, facility upgrades, and strategic planning for Burbank Unified School District's Arts for All Plan.
The Burbank Arts & Education Foundation will build on each nonprofit’s success, and amplify our effectiveness as one united organization.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Foundation is leveling the playing field for low-income students within the Burbank Unified School District. We aim to provide equity and access at school sites with lower parent involvement for fundraising by granting supplemental funding for specific site programs and needs in the areas of arts, STEM, and Safety and Wellness.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Burbank Arts for All Foundation strives to be a sustainable and equitable source of funding for STEAM programming in Burbank's K-12 public schools.
The Foundation is committed to achieving its goals through year-round fundraising initiatives, biannual grantmaking cycles, and year-round community engagement efforts. The organization has also worked to build its endowment to provide an eventual sustainable monetary source for STEAM education grants while supporting its own stability and growth.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Foundation supports a small staff and robust Board of Directors. It operates out of a small office and utilizes advanced strategic techniques and technical programs to run its day-to-day operations and to complete its mission. The Foundation also engages a large pool of over 200 dedicated volunteers, consisting of Burbank parents, citizens, leaders and teachers, who help to extend the reach of the staff and Board.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The organization was created on October 1, 2020, after the Burbank Educational Foundation and the Burbank Arts for All Foundation merged to create a singular, unified voice for Burbank students.
Through our long history of robust grant-giving programs, our organization has provided teachers and schools with funding of over $1,000,000. The grant funding is distributed via our bi-annual grantmaking program, which specifically correlates with BUSD's most significant areas of need. The Foundation will prioritize grants that focus on under-represented communities and those that raise awareness around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
By merging two powerful organizations, we aim to maximize our impact through more strategic fundraising efforts. The new foundation will continue to support innovation and excellence in schools, including arts education, STEM programs, student safety, wellness, and other needs within BUSD. The Foundation provides equity and access at school sites with lower parent involvement for fundraising by granting supplemental funding for specific site programs and needs in the areas of arts, STEM, and Safety and Wellness. In addition, the annual SAT preparation program provides access to students who would otherwise not be able to afford the advantage tutoring gives to students.
Our goal is to provide students with the necessary building blocks to achieve academic and personal success. We empower them with 21st-century skills that can be applied to any career path and offer crucial assistance to facilitate learning.
By investing in students, we not only create more opportunities for them but also reinforce Burbank's reputation as a thriving community dedicated to the well-being of its residents.
Funding has gone towards new and innovative projects and programs at all school levels, teaching artist residencies, media arts programs, music education, supplies and materials, equipment, culinary arts programs, facility upgrades and improvements, and arts integration projects in other core subjects such as Math, English, and History.
The Foundation's biggest challenge is capacity. Limited staff limits our ability to fully realize increased fundraising goals. Currently, the Foundation is working towards building an endowment or soliciting major gift investments to generate more funds that will help sustain more STEAM education programs within the District, as well as help to fund the organization's operations.
