What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Voices International Theatre Festival
The annual Voices International Theatre Festival features speakers and works that offer a global and local cross-section of ethnic, racial, gender, and political perspectives. The exchange of ideas encourages empathy and understanding between cultures and individuals. The Immigration Arts Summit, added in 2021, is a powerful example of the humanities conversations JCTC facilitates around representation and democracy.
JCTC Presents
JCTC stages original productions and events that center on talkbacks to foster meaningful dialogue, critical thinking, and reflection. Recent programs have addressed the educational red-lining of urban communities of color, the transactional invisibility of undocumented labor, and what it means to be an “other” in your own community.
Artist Residencies
JCTC provides an inclusive platform to ensure historically marginalized and underrepresented artists have a safe space to share their stories and express different viewpoints, cultures, histories, and beliefs. Through residencies and mentorship, JCTC artists create shared humanities learning experiences that result in mutual understanding, respect, and a more civically engaged society. Since 2006, we have served hundreds of artists in this capacity.
