Wabash Trails Bridge

The Wapello County Trails Council seeks funding to support the construction of a connector between the existing pedestrian bridge span and the new bridge approach, scheduled for construction in the spring of 2023. Other work to the historic bridge will include decking and fence repair damaged during the second fire; installation of a new pole and electrical wiring to replace electrical components damaged in both fires; and the purchase and installation of new security cameras that will be part of the City of Ottumwa's security system to reduce/eliminate vandalism to the bridge. Work will be completed by trails council volunteers and local contractors. The reconstruction of the south connector and repair of the pedestrian bridge are vital to Ottumwa’s trail system. The mission of the Wapello County Trails Council is to create and coordinate a trails system that promotes health, recreation, and safety while maintaining the natural beauty of this historic area.
